First off, which NP231? There are different snout lengths and spline counts.

Year/transmission will most likely be enough.

Pardon my ignorance. I have a 2000 Sport . AW4 Transmission. Im certain it is 23 spline.
Whats the diff from 231 to 231J ?

As posted...PM for details... would have got you a faster response, maybe next time...Anyways, This is a 23 spline transfer case removed from a 2000 XJ, rebuilt w/ new chain, etc ...at time of SYE install....Then ran in the same xj for roughly 16,000 miles before the jeep was totaled. Transfer case is in good shape and functions flawlessly. Crawl under your jeep and read the ID tag on your current case
