Island Acres(Palisade, CO) Road Trip

I am headed West in the Morning over close to Grand Junction for a camping trip. I have read up on the area a little concerning some good off-road trails. Would someone care to brain dump some info about the area?

Up on Grand Mesa is miles and miles of Jeep trails. You can get a good topo and spend days going from lake to lake. Just bring plenty of insect repelent as the mosquitoes are relentless. Also good fishing and wildlife. My wife and I got ran out of our camp by a bear that seemed too friendly last Sat.
