Got sticker shock today when I priced Loctite 592. It is recommended for use on the #11 bolt when replacing the cylinder head. Has anyone found a good replacement that is a little less expensive, or a better price than about $35.00 a tube?

I would think there is a small tube. since you only need about 2 drops per bolt that should suffice. PermaTex makes a good thread locker too. Readily available.

This isn't threadlocker, it's the sealant used on one of the head bolts since it goes straight into a water jacket - but yeah, a small bottle should do just fine.

I think PTFE pipe thread sealant would work as well, but can't guarantee it.

Go to the hardware store, get regular ol' PTFE Pipe Dope from the plumbing section. I've used it loads of times - no trouble.

The torque value for that screw is already appropriately reduced WRT the others, so no modification needed (that I've noted.)
