Warning limited knowledge ahead:

If I recall they use new rubber and heat it to form "new" tire material in the damaged area....supposed to be good as new when done. Never seen it done, just what I have read about it.

If I would accept this our not depends on a few things..age of tires, remaining tread life, condition of tread, attitude of shop owner.

You are there...not us....for us to tell you what we would do is unfair to you and us.

Also, find out (not from the "live long and prosper" guy..) if vulcanizing voids the warranty on the new tires.

Ain't no way on God's green earth THAT can be repaired. No way, no how.

Glenn's right about the bead lube. I just bought a jug of that stuff for my own messin' around. It cost 10 bucks for a jug that's (I think) 2 quarts. Many tire shops are too bloody cheap to buy the stuff these days, and it sounds like your shop is one of "those." (Penny wise and pound foolish.)

in the future keep that money in your pocket and just add a little dishwashing liquid into a solo cup with a little water, then use an old paintbrush to wipe around the bead :)

That's right Hunter, I forgot about that :) That's what we used in Auto Shop in high shcool, never hurt a bead with the ones I did (the tires for shop, plus my using their equipment to put new tires on my Mustang), although I always did jump a little when the beat went pop into place :D

Soapy water does work too. Tire lube may be a little on the marketing side, however, it is typically a little thicker so it stays in place a little better, and can be a bit slippier that soap and water.

Either will work if used appropriately IMHO.

I'm usually so excited about getting new tires, my body comes up with its own lube, if you know what I mean. ;)

Hmmm...that puts a whole different spin on URF'd products...

Do you think they could have done less damage to the bead if they broke them down trail-style using another vehicle and 2x12?

I hope you get the tires replaced, as the bead cut may compromise the seat into the rim groove when running low tire pressure.

Oh, and I just had to get a word in, on a thread with this title and all the advice on beads and lubrication (makes me think about the early 70's).

Didn't anyone tell you luv-beads are back, and puka shells too, and beaded fringe hanging off the back of girls saddlepants?

Seeing that photo of Donahue and Penske in front of a Matador in another thread, and wanting to paint by XJ Red/White/Blue, is aging me (or is it just my kids fighting in the other room).

See, I got to the venting part ... can I slap 35's on the wifes XJ and run Sledge with you guys now?

HERE'S THE DEAL...

I phoned him today, he said order 2 new tires and get him the bill.

So the tires are comming from FL, leaving today. Should be here just in time to get them mounted and leave for Attica.

I feel pretty good about it too, I got what I wanted w/o having to be a dick about it, that makes me feel better.

BTW, had the other two tires dismounted today, at another shop, guess what?? they didn't tear the bead. Hummm, what's up with that.

Fore "I'm a happy guy now" Wheeler

don't congratulate yourself until AFTER you get that bill paid.

if he's a tire shop, he should have ordered the tires FOR you. I wouldn't want to be outta pocket for that, credit card doesn't matter.

this thing still stinks.

there's no doubt that it all stinks, he is not an Interco dealer so he can't buy them wholesale (which sucks for him), I did use a credit card and I really don't think there's going to be a problem getting the money. The whole small town thing will apply in my favor should he not pay, he's already admited fault. Besides, by me ordering them I KNOW that they got ordered today instead of him 'getting busy and waiting till Monday or Tuesday'.

I'm feeling pretty good right now, and I have a date with my wife tonight, pretty cited bout that too, I'm all cleaned up and just waiting to pick her up, kind of feel like I'm 14 years old again and meeting that girl on the playground after lunch.

Wish me luck.

You're married, how much luck do you really need?

Methinks you're gonna score.
