I plan to use a thicker 1/2" layer of jute carpet pad underneath the rug when I reinstall it in my 1990 project. Only if that's not quiet enough for me will I result to using Dynomat. I also plan on lining the backside of the interior trim panels with a thinner 1/4" to eliminate rattles/squeaks/noise from those. How quiet you can make it is really all about how much time/money/effort you want to put in.
Edit: I forgot your original question even dealt with heat. Try attaching an "Air Bake" Cookie sheet right above the muffler, this is what many guys have done and have had great success with it.
why not just build a heat shield from the exhaust. That's where 90% of the heat is coming from. That's alot cheaper and alot less work. Hell even just wrapping the exhaust in fiberglass heat wrap. . .
Im not too concerned with noise, And I forgot to mention I need the insulation to be non-absorbant. Thanks for your responses. I know i should have a shield on the cat, but i never thought about one onywhere else. good suggestion
I am building an MJ street truck. When I redo the interior with carpet instead of vynal, I will be using either dynomat on the doors and carpet area, or I will be using a nice pad or foam. I want it to be a comfortable, quiet interior.
My cherokee has no padding, and I just bed coated the floor. THe heat is not bad on the drivers side, te transmission tunnel gets a little warm on summer days with a lot of up and down shifting. and the passenger side gets a little bit warmer than the drivers side.
check your exhaust out. If it is getting warmer than normal you may have a cat that is starting to clog up. Then get pretty hot when that happens.
