Independent rear suspension

@John(XJ)Jeep

Why does it matter if people wanna put a 350 in their Jeep or not? And if you noticed I conceded that fact that it was probably not a good idea to put the IRS in my Jeep, so why the need to be elitist?

not sure how you read his comment that way :dunno:

most people assume putting an SBC in anything is the solution to more power and better driveability, no matter what the application. the fact is a well set up suspension with a good driver will out run an overpowered engine swap any day of the week.

The Lincoln IRS I have access to is complete. Its the whole rear assembly, including the brake calipers, the sub frame, shocks, differential, half shafts... everything. I think I could probably get the tranny and drive shaft too, but thats all ECU controlled if memory serves me correct. My problem is as stated earlier. I am new to the fab world, and not sure if I could handle a fab project of such EPIC BIBLICAL proportions!

I am trying to find a different application for that rear end. I have driven a Lincoln LS before and lemme tell you the rear end on that thing hooks up like crazy, so I'd like to see some use out of it other than it being a donor to the next metal compost pile.

Swap it into a fox body and Road race it! :dunno:

Realizing that the OP has decided against the IRS mod, I'm curious why the idea of swapping in IRS came before an IFS conversion? Either one would be a pain in the a**, but IFS/tuned solid rear axle would seem to offer more street performance.

@bjoehandley

"Personally, I do think that making an XJ that can corner even better while keeping the two solid axles would be more impressive and different than stuffing somebody else's IRS off a car under one."

That part I meant. The "350" analogy is just a blanket response I hear. Like it takes nothing to swap out suspension, motors or whatever. >_>

@Keithmania I know you've already decided against it, that comment was more directed generally over the topic. I was just trying to concur,.. it was late.....

Ok, thanks for the clarification John!
