Improve your shackle angle

Sorry should have been more specific... I meant use the nutstrip still, but instead of trying to thread up into them, run them thru the nutstrip and then thru the "frame" and then put everything into place and secure with nuts. Thanks for the help

I got some graded studs from NAPA. inserted the nutstips, added a couple studs to each side to aid in assembely. Between the 2x4x.25 bumper mounts, tank skid, hitch, and weird FS reinforcing plates it was a bear to get the nustrips lined up. Next time I will just tap the bumper mounts.

So no problem with using studs/bolts. However you will probably need to notch the rear core support to get the nutstrips in with bolts attached.

Good luck!

I wonder why everyone seems to think 0.25 2x4 is necessary for sleeving the rear unitbody to make bumper mounts. It seems to me that you would use thinner 2x4 steel because as others have said the unitbody would bend before the 2x4 steel well dont you want it the other way around dont you want the 2x4 to bend before the unitbody? why not use 3/16 instead of 0.25 or even 1/8 u can replace the 2x4 but not the unitbody plus it would be easier to get the nut strip in and all while not losing that much strength. Just seems silly to do all that then hit some thing and tear up the unitbody. anybody feeling me on this?

I have a 97 XJ. The bolts don't line up and there is a 4th bolt for the bumper that is in the way. Has anyone installed these on a 97 or newer XJ.

Would like to know this as well as I want these....bad

Any force great anough to bend the unibody with .25" 2X4 installed would trash the unibody worse with thinner material in the rails for the bumper mounts. 3/16" would work but I wouldn't go thinner than that.

Come and get your pair and we can install them at my place, so I can get a look for myself. I have only had one person with a 97 and up jeep write me to tell me they have a fitment issue.

Sounds good. Sorry I ran into problems...found rust and was not able to get over there. As soon as I can I will take you up on that. Thanks!

I'm going to put mine in this weekend. I have a 3" lift with new springs and factory shackles. What's the right shackle angle? Tilted which way?

A couple of pictures of the flex created with the use of Brian's shackle relocation brackets.

Good stuff!

I ran into fitment issues on my 2001 (i posted it in here somewhere). None of the bolt holes were lining up but that was fixed with some pounding of a BFH. You gotta tweak the shackle box after you slice it up so that the bracket fits flush with it.

I also ran into the issue with the rear-most bolt for my hitch/bumper. The factory nutsert uses 4 bolts to attach the hitch. There was no hole for it so I had to cut a piece off the bracket so it would fit. After tweaking it a little, everything fit and bolted up just fine.

Enough holes for only 3 of the 4 bolts:
