I went by the impound yard my son-in-law works at this morning because the owner told me she had a couple of Jeeps for me to look at to see if they had the desirable bolt-in D44. There was one 1990 MJ and a 1989 XJ. Alas, neither had a D44 so I told her I wasn't interested in either one.
But if any of you are...here's the deal.
The 1990 MJ is 2wd, 76K 4.0L with an automatic trans, The rear end is a D35. It hit a tree driver so would need a front header, bumper, rad support, radiator and Condensor, probably a fan also. It is a red shortbed Pioneer package with acamper shell. The interior looked clean, the instruments were idiot lights, not guages. The stereo was there (this is rare in an impounded vehicle). Tires were about 50% tread and the wheels were the OEM aluminum ones with the round holes. It's registered until May 2007 (no back fees) and would be a lein sale so a clear title will be provided by DMV. Would need to be towed out of the yard.
The 89XJ is 4wd, 169K 4.0L with an automatic trans. Tires are about 25% tread left, tilt wheel is loose. Interior smells like what I image a whorehouse would smell like. Stereo is missing. Didn't bother to pop the hood on this one. Registration says Sep 2007, but the 2007 tag looks funky (like it was stolen from another vehicle).
These are destined for pic-n-pull in Windsor next week.
But while in the yard there was one other vehicle that caught my eye.
A full fibreglass top 1973 K5 Blazer. It is a 350 small block with a THM350. Stock height, sport bar in the back instead of rear seats. The interior is rough, the tail gate glass was down, don't know if it's even there. Tires looked fair. I believe there is no smog required for a 1973 vehicle. This would be a good start to a 'tough truck' build up. This one is past the 60 days required and is slated for turn into the state as a gross polluter buy back. Would be a shame to see this one crushed, but the impound yard recieves $750 for every vehicle it turns into the state. They were offered $900, but the guy eventually flaked.
I see the owner about once a week and go to the yard about every 3 months and she let's me know whenever a Jeep is there.
If you are interested in the above vehicles PM me.
