thanks. its not too terribly hard doing the 1/4 to 16 gauge, doing it upside down is gonna be tricky though.
Nice thing about being scrawny is I can practically sit underneath mine and weld. :D

for thoes guys who have sleeved only the outside and bottom, do you now have any issues with it folding inward? It seems like the 'weak point' would be the inner non-sleved portion, and any deformantion would be in that direction...

after cutting out my rockers and welding them to the sheetmetal like everyone does and NOT welding them to a cage (http://www.myxj.net/tech/rockers/) mine are collapsing that small sheet metal structure, and my drivers side door is about 1/2" outta the hinges now...

which means one of two things:
1- Time for Boatsides while keeping the doors a la Kernel
2- Time for trailer and green sticker, and say goodbye to doors and roof...

Ill probably go with option 1 as I hate DD'ing my MJ and really like DD'ing my XJ...

I'm having more of a problem with the sheetmetal on the outside of my Jeep folding inward. ;)

I think the angle iron improves the strength that's already there with the existing rail, so it shouldn't be a problem. On top of that, the metal in the flooring/tunnel is in much better shape which provides some strength in that direction ... on my rig at least. Besides, if there ever is a problem, (I agree with Randy) ... it's nothing a strong crossmember wouldn't fix.

not to mention tying them into the rockers and a cage :)
Now that you mention it, I did weld my rock rails to it. I would figure it to fall off before bending. :)

rolling it over really doesnt seem like a bad option, i'll have to consider that if it gets too bad this weekend.

You suck!

I'll have my cage tied into it and eventually cut out rockers, i doubt they'll be folding anytime soon. If i get adventurous i could always add another piece on the inside.

how about a bunch of 2x4s and prop it up? i saw it on the internet, it must be safe.

Then what's the point?

I have a strip down MJ, stereo with crappy speaker, crappy paint, bench seat, no A/C, blown shocks...

compare that to the XJ -
stereo with 4 working speakers, A/C, buckets, better paint, decent shocks... that and I just love driving dented junk!

after I put some time into the MJ, it'll be nice, but right now, I have neither the time nor resources to take care of that...

any one have any tips on plug welding? how about the size of the holes to drill?

just saw les used 3/4, sounds good enough

5 months later...

I think my biggest problem is going to be, finding a place to paint it all.

why do you need a bumper?
