Important

Congratulations on joining the ranks of the 33. Not to be confused with the 3300.

You know, all that extra elevation brings you closer to the low hanging, roof scratching, quarter panel, fender denting, side mirror eating tree branches.

arent they just the cutest

I dunno about a name yet...

I need a name that befits a catholic school girl in a plaid skirt...

y'know...

Appears to be proper but is really a whore in disguise waiting to be rode hard, often and nasty...

She'll prolly survive winter in her current guise...

maybe.

MUFFY.... what else!

picked up some 3x3x1/4" angle, $25 for 10ft. 1/4 looks to be pretty much overkill but it was all they had. Les what size did you use on yours? Also got some scrap 16ga so i can try and figure out how to attach these two things.

I used 1/4".
If killing is good, overkilling is better.
Nothing exceeds like excess.

The terrorist must kill, what kind of pansy would I bee if I had used 3/16", might been kicked out of the next jihad.

How many plug(or is rosette the correct term) welds did you use?

Every foot or so.
You don't need as many due to using angle instead of channel.
By welding one piece of the angle (one side of the frame rail) at a time you can run weld all down the bottom of the rail, then weld the second angle to the first.

Your saying use two pieces and overlap them on the bottom? I was just planning on one piece of angle on each rail, outside and the bottom.

That is what I did.
I cut Vs where the frame gets narrower under the rear doors.
I welded those the to the frame rails and I cut three 1.5 inch holes on the sides and welded them there also.
Keep this in mind, The frame rails are covered with undercoating, brake clean, wire wheel, and if you are daring, a propane torch will come in very handy to get good welds!
My wleds look like shit, 'cause I did not clean the rails good enough.
Just grinding is will not clean them.

I used 3/16" x 3 x 3 angle on mine. Drilled (7) 3/4" holes for the rosettes, and welded 1" welds every two inches along the inside bottom edge. I've yet to weld along the top edge ... will do that when I replace the remainder of the rusted out floor.

Not sure this is proper ... but that is what I did. Here are the rails before I welded them on.

thanks. its not too terribly hard doing the 1/4 to 16 gauge, doing it upside down is gonna be tricky though.

Not overlap, just butt together.
You'll have to cut some of the angle thinner for a good fit.
Actually just doing one side like Les did should be fine for all but the most brutal abuse.
I had to do both sides to mount my rear four link and front URF three link x-member.
