put the aussie in the 44 today... what a nightmare...

Still havent found the source of my vibration after a COMPLETE dissasembly for the front end...

New wheel bearings on both sides,
new spindle brearings on both sides
no more spider gears

We'll see if it isnt gone now...

Taking a d44 apart isnt the easiest...

i had to pull both hubs and shafts apart (duh)

drain the diff and get all the 90% water, 10% gear oil out, Ratchet strap the carrier out of the housing, change both inner axle seals, take the ring gear off....

Install the aussie, which i had to take out of another carrier. 3 of the 4 springs now have more than one piece to them (broken in the previous locker).

when i went to torque the ring gear, i was using a beam style torque wrench, which allowed me to see what torque i was at... all the bolts stoped at 70-80 ft-lbs and started stripping - the spec is 105...
hopefully the locktite will hold?

put the freeking carrier back in (rubber mallet helped a lot there).

at this point its dark

put both shafts in, change the spinde bearings on both sides, install spindle/ backing plate, notice that there is RUST on one wheel bearing, change thoes wheel bearings (the ones I didnt change on the side of the road) and races. put the hubs together. As im tightening the allen head screws on my hub, it starts pouring rain!

it just was a long day...

and I like complaining...
 
Where did you get your torque specs from?
The ring gear bolts only torque to 55ft/lb.
Cap bolts are 60ft/lb.
Holy shit, man, what were you thinking?
If the bolts stripped out, you NEED to replace them.
Don't count on the locktite to keep them in the ring gear.

fawk... I was using my friends FSM for his Wag... the front 44 on there calls for 105 ftlbs...

Cap bolts are only to 60...

where are you getting these numbers?

damnit boy! i wouldnt even run my jeep like that and its nearly a deathtrap. replace the bolts and order a new sprink kit from aussie. I'm hoping this is a late april fools...

I wish I could, however, I'm plannin' on a mud run at Redbird that weekend. Gonna deliver a wheel/tire for Haleyes and pick up a AT/TC from Cher a center Console from Haleyes for Aaron's MJ.

I'm doin' the Dog Run/MO in June ... want to get down to Clayton/OK in July. I want to do Hot Springs sometime soon again too. Damn ....

I ain't doin' nothin' unless I get the steering replaced and rear springs checked/replaced. Doin' that this month sometime.
