That era of Dodge you better keep a spare trans with you.

5.4 in a 3/4 ton will be a turd.

Personally I would keep looking. Don't settle for something you will end up hating.

What happened to the Cummins?

Still have the Cummins for now. It's a decent truck just finding out can't fit kids in car seats in back seat and still have front passengers have leg room.

If the Cummins was a crew cab might keep it but really needing crew cab

Depends on the setup and gearing. The 5.4 crew cabs are 5500ish lbs. The Expedition is 5200 ish. I lt doesn't even struggle to keep 80 on the interstate with a full interior load and I can hold 70 with the trailer and heep if I want to. That is with the 4r100 and 3.73s in the axles. Yeah, it's not crazy powerful and I'm on the highways of the midwest rather than the mountains, but it's not a turd by any stretch.

That Cummins you got should be worth millions so I'd think you could trade it for about anything.

I wanted a v10 ford truck when we got the ex...they wanted gold for them.

Not sure of your budget, but I bought that white 04 Chevy crew cab LT that was rust free from TX w/ @140k on it back then and it was only around 14k. I sold it with under 200k on it to a buddy for 11k. Those are nice trucks, fit n finish is nice and they are reliable. No spitting plugs, trans problems etc, they are just good solid trucks with IFS and they ride nice...but you wont ever see more than 14mpg on a 6.0 gasser. Those 6.0 motors and 4l80 trans are a great combo and will easily go 300k plus if taken care of. Sell the Cummins out right and travel south.

of the two.

ford.
the spark plug fixing is easier IF it happens.
Dodge is a guaranteed piece of shit at those miles.

MDS is bad in the chevy's too. I know a couple of people that have had the top ends rebuilt and put the "old" technology back on to have a reliable motor.

We have the hemi in our durango and it doesn't have the mds on it. Seems to be doing fine so far.

Did end up going with the f250 last night. Guy actually drove 2 hours over to my place last night to do the trade. So far pretty pleased with it. Main thing is its gonna fit the family better than the cummins did.

If I was going to own a gas 3/4 ton, it would have a ford v10 in it. The way mine is beat on is nothing short of amazing.

And I just did 10 spark plugs, no problems.

Can honestly say we never had any problems out of the v10 in the excursion. Would have taken another v10 but the 5.4 got offered up to me and was 160,000 miles less than what the cummins had on it and doesn't seem to have problems like the cummins had. The dodge was really neglected by its previous owner and i ended up fixing it more than driving it. Was time to send it on down the road.

I miss my 2500 ram gasser. The seats did suck and being a 2500HD gasser it was a turd but I was never going anywhere fast with it anyways. It did 75mph towing through the mountains of KY just fine.
