I have a cordless weed waker and chainsaw, both work great for what I need.

even higher end mowers are not made to last anymore like the old ones.

Wise one, you are wrong. There are design life goals for each engine, the can last longer if taken care of correctly, the majority of early failures are because of neglect.

some engines are designed for 200 hours, some for 2000 hours, some for 10k hours. Price point from OEMs is huge, you are not going to get the same hours out of a consumer lawn mower as you are out of a commercial zero turn...

I helped Paul Z out with a Kohler engine he had. design life was 1500 hours, he had 2000 hours on it. oil consumption problem that turned out to be vent hose and breather...

A lot of people are going this way now...

Too many options for mowers. Ill deal with a self propelled if it has a good motor but my problem is they move to fast and when i mow i take my time, small yard lets me do that. Would do a cordless just not sure what ones good and whats not

what kohler motor?

courage? If they overheat because no one ever cleaned the shrouds it will bone the exhaust valve guide.

So pull the valve cover, look to see if the valve guide is proud of the head. Pull spring and keep the valve up, smash the valve guide back into the head with a deepwell. Then stake it in place with a punch.

fixed.

yes...its a courage 23 v twin, but from what i can tell the valve guides aren't out of whack. i know that is a big problem on the single cylinders though. i suppose i can pull the springs to verify, but they aren't visible on the exhaust valves through the springs.

i got the valve clearance set perfectly to .004 and still no go.

i will say this though, under load the starter gets very hot and starts to heat up the connections. i'm going to tinker with it some more tommorrow. I will say that sucker has insane compression though.

You are looking at 180 at most for a descent one, even higher end mowers are not made to last anymore like the old ones.

I have a Toro Push mower that I abused for 7 years, I have only changed the oil a hand full of times. I starts first pull every time.
Buy a good one and it will last.
A cheap one $180.000 will not last.

I should clarify, I meant lasting like 20 years like some of the mowers my grandpa had when I was a kid. I expect 8-10 years out of a push mower that isn't cheap.

I like more cordless trimmer, blower, and hedge clippers but I have too much yard for a cordless mower. 54" deck and it still takes a few beers to get the lawn mowed.

I am told Lar's mom died this morning. It is a good thing, she has lain in bed gasping for air for the last 5 days.

Sorry to hear this man, please send our condolences to Lar and family.

with it being cinco de mayo. and the fact that i just bought a blender about 3 days ago, anyone got any good frozen margarita recipes. :D

Take ice, tequila and mix, pour ice and mix into blender, put lid on and then throw it out the door. Take tequila and remove lid, insert bottle into your mouth, drink.
