Important

Congrats Mac and Grace!

How is Indy? Flying down there Wednesday morning then flying home Thursday night. Hope it is an easy in, easy out scenario...

Congrats Mac and Grace!

snow stopped at 65 and 30.
so Indy is probably fine.

it was seriously like two different worlds.

The bigger snow was south. I live an hour southwest of Indy airport and all we got was 2" of snow. Indy probably got less.

The daughter in Evansville says they had about 4 inches and everything is closed or closing. My school is in Louisville announced they were closing today yesterday afternoon... Mid southerners are apparently wimps about snow

I did once.
Here is what you do, borrow $100,000.00, cash the check, put it in a paper bag and set it on fire. Same result only faster.
Sorry it didn't work. I'm sure there are people in this world that say the same thing about construction? (I think that's What you do now right?)
Crazy hippy in Chicago got you hooked right? haha I watch it too...
No. These people are dumb. I haven't been able to figure out how 80% of these people even made it to the rescue point

ive had 2 good friends who opened bars...they were both heavy drinkers. needless to say it didn't end well and they are no longer bar owners.

i do have another friend who isn't an exceptionally close friend that is a smart, business minded person who isn't a heavy drinker. needless to say her bar/restaurant is extremely successful.

Congrats on #2 Matt.

We got around an inch/ inch and a half where I'm at, but it's still cold ass F out.

Looked at and test drove a 97 Corolla today. Meeting the guy tomorrow at the title office to make it official. It needs some TLC but for $650 I could put a grand into it and still break even. Only has 126k on it. So I looks like the Jeep will get the 255/75R17 off the Hoe once I get the new tires on it. They're 3/4 wore out, but as long as it's not deep slop I should get around fine.

scooby "also thinks owning a bar would be fun" xj

The bar/restaurant business is generally way more difficult to succeed in than the construction/remodeling business, and since the initial investment is also much larger, the consequences of failure are much worse. If there is any local competition with your restaurant/bar, the smallest things can send your customers elsewhere. Unless you can run the whole operation by yourself, with at most a couple family members helping, you will be depending on too many factors outside of your control that can make or break you.

In the construction/remodeling industry, an individual with decent skills can easily make a good living, and with a few good employees, can make really good money. And since the initial investment is not that large, there is a much larger percentage of idiots out there to make someone with real skill look that much better.

I've made a fair amount of money doing finish carpentry in a couple bar/restaurants that probably never made the owners a dime.

I agree. But there are failures everywhere. I also think the whole bar dream is alot more people dream than building house or carpentry
