Although true, saying the last raise was 4 years ago is giving it to much credit.

employed here 15 years, 3 promotions, and just 5 raises.

Where you work and live is a choice. If your job satisfaction is the result of a catered christmas party, you're probably right, you need a new job.

But it's not the company's responsibility to ensure that you have the means to live. Where would that money come from? An increase in profits to pay a living wage would drive an increase in cost that's passed to the customers, which will just result in you paying more to get paid more.

My mom hasn't had a raise in 15 years. She knows that for the work she does, there's a ceiling. If she wanted to get paid more, she would have a different job. You knew when you started there that there was a limit to the job's salary potential. Expecting that to change because you've stayed to the limit of that potential is not very smart. Expecting a company to increase its wages without increasing its productivity isn't very good business sense.

Got back from lunch today and one of my hourly's left a 1/5 of grey goose on my desk....Still making him work Saturday:D

I'm in a job where I know in 15 years I will never pull more than 60k (more likely 50k). But I get holidays off, and a good chunk of the summer. Right now the pay doesn't meet my cost of living, so I found a second job working parts counter. Is it fun? You bet. Is it sustainable? No. But I will continue doing what I need to do until my situation changes.

Duh Iowa is Great besides the no legal open wheeling spots.

I'll stay here till I cant. I like what I do for the most part, having a little trouble with a coworker right now that could turn what I do into a Lot more paper work in the office instead of out in the shop/lot. Hate paper work.

as I say to anyone that brings it up.

A "living wage" (or raising the minimum wage to account for supporting a family of four) does nothing for you, but does increase the government's tax rate considerably.

So while you end up making more you also pay more, and the government takes more from you. So in essence, you've decreased your actual earnings.

You left out that every single person gets f'ed in the end because the minimum wage increase goes back into EVERY SINGLE product produced, because we all know good and well that companies are not going to cut their profit margins.

well I would assume that the scale slides for everyone.

it all but has to as the cost of living increases dramatically.

I don't know why it's so hard for proponents to comprehend that they still end up working poor, but now they'll lose they're precious tax credit they get every year.

Like I said, the only winner from an increased minimum wage is the federal government's coffers.

Sean you can reorganize which items come up first. For naxja I have participated threads come up. On rockhard I have it come up by timeline, since there is not much traffic there, the most recent thread bumps are on top.
