well back to work after 3 vaca's and a weekend.
went to New York mostly for sight seeing and a good road trip.
for what we put my daughter through(car seat and stroller for 80% of her trip) she could have been a little devil, but she was fantastic. only a few crabby baby moments. now we just have to get her sleep schedule back on track.
showed up late wed after driving straight there, and just chilled in our cottage up in Bear Mtn. Thurs we headed down to Staten island took the ferry over, checked out battery park, 9/11 memorial and the freedom tower, before making a very long walk to get pizza for a buck. eventually my wife said no more walking and with some advice from Craig we jumped on a subway. after realizing we took the wrong one we got off and took a cab to the empire state and met Craig. he then played tour guide and took us past the library, Rockefeller center, a toy store for the baby, central park, time square and then a GREAT dinner spot if you like BBQ.
he then made sure we got on the correct subway to get us back to the ferry.
Friday we made our way back to the city and took a different ferry then walk back into the heart around the empire state and did a bus tour that took us to see it all. that eventually dropped us of at time square again(oops, we were happy with time square once. 2 times was rough)
but we made our way through it and headed back.
Saturday we wanted to check out the mountain we were staying at and maybe do some light hiking, but we woke to rain. all day kinda rain. so we chilled, packed, ate and left. grabbed a hotel in Ohio and continued home Sunday.

all in all great trip to a huge city and something im glad i did.

that being said, it will be hard to get me back in New York City for a looong time. :spin1:

early oct means prime fall time colors. perfect time between all the trees being beautiful colors but before the leafs actually falls. we had the same experience in mich for our honeymoon 3 years ago.

Went on a stroll around NYC with the settle family. Hit up FAO Schwartz, Rockefeller plaza, Radio City, Central Park, Times Square and my favorite BBQ joint. Always nice to meet up with mwc peeps.

Alt "lotsa walkin" rocker1

we walked a ton. i mapped out the walked and on Thursday we did 7 miles and Friday 4. so glad you were there to help out. we probably would have stressed a lot more and gotten upset with the whole thing if we didn't have your help. and that was some damn good BBQ. we also enjoys the NY pizza. even got more from a different place on Friday night.

thanks a lot.

also we must have been pulling off the "New York" look because we got asked for directions 4 times and i was even able to give directions once!

SAM'trip report'SET

I heard my old team (RIT) did pretty good

1st! we cheered louder than their boys did for their finish.

curious to see how far we were behind considering a 3 year old car took second. but hey, ya stay on the track, keep ticking off laps, good things happen. final scores aren't up yet, our car from last year was running faster, but had a failure that took it off the track for about 30 minutes. our 4 year old car was on the track the entire time as well, so we are anxious to see how they all did.

drinking was kosher at the event. I was the pit flagger/cheer leader, and wasn't supposed to drive. so I was about 10 beers deep and was told to hop in a car for the last hour. talk about a rough ride. lol. funniest thing was that all 3 of our cars found each other on the 2 mile track in the last hour. we linked up and had a BLAST racing each other. just pulling lap after lap.

biggest thing is we were racing for fun, getting the new guys some seat time. so we ran 4 drivers in the other two cars, only 3 drivers in the podium car. without the driver changes and failure, we could have had multiple podiums. but that's racing. it was fun none the less. there is a photo of all 3 of our cars jumping through the red bull arch at the same time that im waiting to surface. great promotional shot for us.

off in the distance during the day we could hear some rigs with some serious horsepower. google searching dirty turtle offroad made some of our hearts drop. apparently its a pretty popular place for serious rock bouncers. would have been cool to see.

The car RIT was using was from either 08-09 or 09-10. If it was 08-09 then it was the last car I worked on before I graduated. I miss baja a lot, one of the best experiences in college. I have helped organize a event each year since I graduated (minus last year) and found being on an actual team a lot more fun. I have one of the cars from 06-07 sitting in my shop that I have to get back together.

Went to clean my air filter this weekend and found this...

Called Spectre today, they seemed as surprised as I was. They're sending me a new filter for free, just want a few pictures.

Is there some mechanical stop/flange to stop the filter from sliding before the neck down in the tube?

decided to do turkey legs on the smoker tonight since they were on sale...don't know why i've never considered it before. this was the single best thing i've ever cooked in a smoker. i almost ate my wife's before she got home but i decided the bones in the trash would be a dead giveaway. should have bought another pack since the two of them only cost $3

i'm going to go back and buy some more while they are on sale!

Never seen turkey legs at the store. I always buy them at places that sell them, fairs etc.
