Important

I never knew that something as stupid as a race bus could generate more school spirit than a football game... I love it!

This Saturday night will be something as we will be racing our bus against 10 other local schools. The buses, harnesses, and some cash are all donated by the speedway that runs the race.

how much paint did that take?

Ordered parts to change the oil on my cub cadet. The transaxle fluid is 19 a quart and takes 6! Manual says change as needed. Looks pretty clean in the dipstick so I'm just changing the filter and adding what is lost.

If it's anything like a John Deere transaxle it's just 30W hydraulic oil.

way cheaper at TSC than the cub cadet dealer.

Got the mj mostly put back together tonight. Could not find an oil pressure sending unit anywhere. I also forgot to buy a valve cover gasket...hopefully with any luck it will be rolling on the street by Wednesday. Found a lot of broken vac lines too. They are brittle as heck so I am sure I will replace a lot of them. Going to look at a pick n pull tomorrow that's supposed to be pretty good...hopefully they have a couple remix xjs to pirate from.
is it 4.0? just order the new dorman harness from rockauto. Both halves are $35. Worth every penny to not mess with vacuum lines.

It was a rush job, 3 gallons of single stage gloss black using a primer tip. Didn't use primer, just scuffed up the surface... I couldn't see spending uber amts of money on paint, but it was still cheaper and looks better than rattle-can.

A fourth can and no wind would have made it look amazing.

Well, since I don't know, I just bought one quart off amazon. I'll change the filter and add what I need.

I don't want to put a trans-axle in it.

yeah, in the future if you decide to change it that's worth researching. You can get a gallon of regular hydraulic oil for 15 bucks.

I knew 19/quart was pricey.

What's scary is that the fluid that's in it looks great. But I can't help thinking, 13 years on an original filter (or unknown how old) is a long time.

I'll research it at some point, I just don't have time right now for another forum :)

as long as it's not contaminated it will probably last forever.

The only reason we did the research for dad's deere is because after 20 years it was leaking and needed to be drained to replace seals. He put regular hydraulic oil in it probably 4 or 5 years ago and it's been just fine. The deere stuff was also priced like gold.

My filter is dented...don't ask, cause I don't know.

I also need to figure out why the deck shuts off when you hit the pedal to go in reverse...

electric blade clutch I'm assuming?

and it's for your own safety

Because mowing in reverse is inherently unsafe, Cub Cadet tractors are designed to discourage the practice. When the tractor's key is in the "normal mowing" position, the PTO will automatically disengage when the tractor is shifted into reverse. In order to restart the PTO, the operator must shift out of reverse, turn the PTO off and then turn the PTO on again. In order for the mowing deck to run while the tractor is in reverse, the key must be in "reverse caution mode," which is meant to ensure that the operator has made a conscious decision to mow in reverse and is presumably taking appropriate precautions.

cause mowing in reverse is unsafe. I'm not sure how I survived childhood with the spinning blades of death that had no safety deices underneath me.

Yes.

Started a few years ago, I would hit rev on the pedals and it would intermittently shut the deck off. Let off, push the switch back in and pull it back out and either sitting still or going forward the deck will run as normal. There isn't a safety thing like the newer ones have where you have to depress something to keep the deck on while going in rev. It used to work just fine.

I have just dealt with it as I barely have time to mow, let alone fix problems. I only change the oil, sharpen the blades every other year as it is.

put a meter on the blade clutch wires set to ohm mode. Jerk it around some. If the wires go to infinite resistance than the coil in the clutch is shorting/broken and when you move from forward to reverse the circuit fails.

I pulled the wire on my mower that was making contact when put it in reverse. Now I can unsafely mow in reverse.

I'll try to check that tonight.

It's very predictable tho so I'd be surprised if it was from the jerking.
