Important

I ran a thrust style 14" long oval canister w/o cat and a turn down. It was free flowing, sounded decent and was not stupid loud. It did not have teh rock deflecting qualities of a cherry bomb though....I believe part of it is still at SMORR, Dinsey, KS Rocks, Badlands...

Just go straight pipe through the hood with a dancing rain cap.....

I have welded Thrush with a S-10 hi flow cat and a turn down. Sounds good not to loud.

Well i'm mainly trying to find something mellow enough that you can tell it isn't a stock muffler but still not be annoying driving down the high way. We put to many miles on the Jeep to have an annoying exhaust on it

I am interested in this as well, $50 for a stock style muffler seems expensive to me. Apparently a cracked exhaust manifold caused a rich condition which led to a small "pop" in my exhaust:

Re: Re: Important

The stock cat is a pretty good muffler (and spark arrestor) just by itself. I think any of the options mentioned should work fine.
If you are worried about cabin noise run a tailpipe if possible. If you dump it under the back seat expect it to be loud and annoying no matter what you choose for muffler.
Thrush Welded. 2 1/2" pipe

This if you want to get rid of the cat.

Thrush welded in stock pipe size with a tailpipe shouldn't sound too bad either.

found a 97 dodge with a cummins....157k. truck is in good shape, very little rust. tranny is pretty much dead...$3000 obo

there is a newly rebuilt tranny for that same truck online for $800 obo...

under $5k is what i was hoping for. i will have the money for it next week, but it still may be too soon :(

plan would be to drop the old tranny out, put the rebuilt one in, and have the old one built up after we move. i know people love the dodges :) but if i had time to do a cummins transplant now, i would...but i don't

How does yours sound Sean? Is it loud at all? Mainly just looking for a decent tone without any performance loss.

My dad's automatic has 100k on it with zero issues. His truck is stock though.

What does everyone prefer for a replacement muffler? The one on the xj is starting to show its age and would like to replace it here soon. Part of me says to just put a glass pack under it but I don't know how that would sound. Any opinions?

I ran a 2 chamber flow master on the buggy and the baby jeep, buggy had no cat and popped a lot. The popcan had a cat and sounded good.

The LJ has a cat and a Thursh. I tried it because everyone said to try it. Its still too quiet for me. It works, but I'd rather have a 2 chamber flowmaster.

Wife says its not loud enough for her 5.9 when that needs a muffler.

mac 'more flowmasters for me' gyvr

Headers, no cat, FM44, turn down 2.5" on the niner. Sounds amazing!

Apn header, Magnaflow cat, 2.5" dynomax muffler and a turn down on the cheroggy and it was ok

Custom down pipe with not kink, apn header, magnaflow cat, flowmaster 44, and 2.5" tail pipe on the 95 XJ was awesome!

Chock under pull up to the xj's for the winter. I know its not as good as Rewster's semi pull put just pulled the Fed Ex truck out.
