Important

But you don't have a d30

Correct...I did have a HP D-30 but did not want to put 4.88's in it...that is why I got the 44.....Should have just gone to 1 Tons now that I am going to bigger tires.........

I was more agreeing with your comment about 4:10's not great for 33's and 4:88's being the best all around gear for 35's

Why are the cages about 14' over the drivers head?

per rules... there has to be at least 6" of clearance between all tube and drivers head (with helmet). for comparison... KOH only requires 3". unless the car is built around a single driver, you have to go a little big... in this case, a lot of big.

regardless... its a LOT of unsupported tube, makes me cringe. but i guess it passes FAE analysis and is race legal.

50 bucks is pretty cheep, you shouldn't pass. like dan said sell it on CL or keep it around till you decide if you want to do 4.10's or not. it will be a lot cheaper to gear one axle. i got 4.10s and 33's works great.

Watching a wrecker driver try to flip a minivan over on a snowy road...

He's been at it for 45 minutes...just keeps spinning it around...

Now he's loading it on the flat bed upside down...

I would jump on a $50 4.10 geared d30 if the seller lets you pop the cover and check the gears, just make sure hte pinion bearings are in good shape and the carrier isn't flapping around. Maybe give it an eyeball on the backlash.

Worst case, sell it on CL for $150. Or regear the rear (or slap together a quick 8.8 swap) and then when you want to actually regear, make some money selling the pair.

Just sent Melissa out the door in a snowstorm...she can be a little wimpy sometimes, but she is 2 weeks before her due date and still going in pretty much every day. Its a 10 minute walk to the bus, a 30 minute bus ride then a 15 minute walk to her office. I'm hoping they will let her leave early if the snow gets too bad

I still can't wait to see how my DD XJ is going to be with an AX15, 3.55s, and 205/70r15 (25" rolling diameter) tires.

Have you used the ax15-3.55 combo with 33's? I am still running the 3.07 and keep debating finding a pair of 3.55 axles for a little more pep..

I have, my MJ has exactly that combo. It's a bit undergeared for 33s but does a hell of a lot better than 3.07s would, especially given 99% of XJs have the donor axles you want and they are therefore dirt cheap.

Need pics of everything on 33's Matt! :D
Probably later today.

I bought one from Tractor Supply to mount up a couple 31s. It was a workout. Also is it well known that you can't use those things on aluminum wheels, or was I just being careless? I left some pretty substantial gouges in the lip of the rim. They held air though!

One of the youtube vids I saw of a guy demonstrating the changer mentioned buying a tire bar with a delrin pad to run along the edge of aluminum rims instead of the included steel bar.
My steelies are scratched and one got bent pretty good in Moab so If it scratched it up I didn't really notice.

It took some force and a smaller guy would maybe want a second person helping.
