First time I was cutting the backshell off a db9 connector with a utility knife... plastic was hollow, brittle, and super glued together, it shattered when I expected to have to cut through hard rubber... knife went through the top of my left index finger. 5 stitches.
Second time I was cutting fuel tank J bolts on a 94 XJ a friend had brought to my place to part out... we had tipped it on its side (since the drivetrain was out already) to make removing the axles easier. I cut one bolt just fine, the second one bound up on the angle grinder cutoff disc and kicked it back at me. I didn't realize it cut me to the bone till I looked around the axle housing to give the bolt another shot with the grinder and realized I was streaming blood. It hit me so fast it felt like the blade guard hit me, not the disc. 3 xrays (since it nicked the bone a bit) and 3 stitches.
That finger has been cut to the bone 180 degrees around and somehow I haven't severed a nerve, tendon, or artery yet. That's luck for you.
I try to keep cutting tools away from my fingers these days.
