Important

Yes i did, i used their truck.
The pay was good, but they wanted to pay me 1099.
I enjoyed it quite it bit, I was sad to have to leave.
Yup, independent contractor, not employee. Means zero benefits, among other things, like 15% FICA.

1099 employees can not operate their employer's vehicles, there for are not covered their insurance and the vehicles were not covered under my insurance.
Could not afford the risk.

Interesting. I did not know that. Let me guess, the transport company did not tell you this either.

are you sure of this...

i'm about 75% 1099...i work entirely freelance. i drive employer trucks all the time...up to 24 ft trucks and have never had an issue. in fact some of the people i know who are solely drivers are entirely 1099.

I read something when they told me it was a 1099 gig, but now I cant find it.

There are a lot of people who are paid 1099 that are technically real employees.
The IRS is cracking down on them.

Truth. There's a list about working unsupervised, with own tools, on own schedule, etc. that has to be gone over.

In some respects, the IT world should be hammered on this..... but what's happening there is the individual is hired by a contract house, who then sells services to the corporation.

contracts in the IT world are totally screwed up.

I hope you either get it back, or get a check.

I looked into RV transport several years ago, when I was between jobs. Best info I got was at the fuel pumps, BSing with the drivers as they filled up. It didn't take long to realize that hauling RVs was a damned good way to wear out a truck in 5 years and get completely screwed in the process.

My dad has friend who does it.

He absolutely loves it. His wife and dog ride all over with him and he gets to see his grandkids as much as he wants.

But... they are retired, so they have pensions to cover their personal costs, the hauling gig only needs to pay truck expenses.

Oh, it can work for some some people, absolutely. He's got other means of income, hauling RVs is an excuse to travel and get his travelling costs covered. If he was trying to pay for a house, wife & kids..... I'll bet it's another story.
