Important

Yes, this is my meal ticket, I am the only Autos program in the district so they could easily cut it, if they saw a reason to. The only problem is I'm spending all my time trying to get things back into running order that I haven't really touched the actual curriculum. The texts I'm using were published in 2000... It may seem not that long ago, but if you start reading you soon realize how outdated it is.

The school district is trying to go away from textbooks; they want teachers to 'write' their own. While it is a noble idea, it isn't for all content areas. Now I need to decide whether to spend some of my own department money now to get new texts, or 'go with the flow' and somehow compile my own...

The automotive industry has advanced so much since then. That's way outdated!

There is many classes I wish I would took in high school, automotive stuff is one of them. My high school had the shop for mechanical stuff, North high school had the body shop I believe. You could take both I believe if you wanted to.

whats stopping you now? i go to a community college for electrical technology, there is a huge auto class right across from me i see everyday. i may take a coarse or to just to do it.

Yes it is! The book used at the beginning of the course is as old as I am!

On the fun side of things, the wheel balancer I am looking at is a Hunter Road Force Touch. RFT00 includes Road Force, StraightTrak, touch screen interface,
SmartWeight, eCal auto calibration, auto-open hood, TPMS Specs, inflation station, 10 collets

MSRP is $18,000, I can get it for $13k with a bunch of accessories.

Thats awesome. I had a pretty cool autos teacher, we each rebuilt a 5hp briggs motor then it was free for what ever we wanted to do. I rebuilt a C4 with a shift kit and new stall converter then proceded to get suspended for two days after testing it out behind a 347stoker in my mustang with a set of worn out tires on junkyard rims.

Anybody here ever pull a fifth wheel camper with a car hauler behind it? Thinking this would be the ultimate way to go wheeling/camping or one without the other.

Sounds Sketchy!

Kastein how can you get gas from a pump that has no electricity?
you pop the inspection plates in the parking lot and use your own 12V pump.

not at all. Lots of big time RV guys do that. Check on pirate, there are a few guys that double tow.
It's all legal and stuff, just watch the overall length, and I'm pretty sure the lead trailer has to be a 5th wheel. (in ohio anyway, varies with the state)

I don't think your truck is up to the task. I would say dually at minimum, and keep in mind most of the hitchs on the back of the fifth wheel trailers are rated at 5000 pounds

flat tow, no problem. I would not put a trailer and jeep behind an averaget fifth wheel trailer

Duh on the pump!!!!!! lol

From what I've seen it's under 65 feet. Nothing I am going to do RIGHT now but have been looking at fifth wheels and am considering buying one around tax season. Would be a sweet way to roll into attica next year!!

500+ head of cattle on grass and natural water...I think we will have some food "just in case" and typically over 1500 gallons of ruby red in the barrels and planty of gas. We have gen sets that run off the PTO of a tractor as well as diesel powered big 220 units. Food and power is not to worrrysome around here....and that is not even counting the 4800 head of hogs that we would have to "deal with" if the electric feeding systems went down....who wants a pork chop? :D the urbanites are too far away to even remotely worry me...for those of you that have been to our farms, you know it is way the hell away from any big city. :farmer:

So I just need to have enough diesel to get to your place with my trailer?

I haven't done it. However lots of people do it. Manche is right, lots of pirate threads on it...do a search newbie :flipoff2:

Kidding aside. You should use a goose or fifth wheel trailer up front. Make sure the hitch on it for the bumper pull trailer is built to haul a 5 or 6k trailer. Make sure brakes and lights work. Stay within the Gross rating of the truck and stay under 65 feet. That said I know people that are over 65ft long and as long as they do it safely it seems no one is getting too much hassle over it.

For comparison, my truck with the 48 foot trailer is about 63 feet long.

mac 'tow/haul' gyvr

I saw three different SRW trucks doing a quick google search that have done it. One had a older muscle car, one was a focus and one was a well built extended cab yota.

May need bags and I'm sure as hell not gonna win any races.

kelsey, I think you would be further ahead doing a red neck hauler gooseneck

The problem with those is the same problem I have. If you want to go camping you pretty much have to get a big trailer in the campground.

The truck camper in the truck with the bumper pull was awesome...but I like the room I have and the bathroom and shower.

mac 'could still camp in a small campsite' gyvr

Yup!

Pirate no worky at work :flippoff2:

It would be a fifth wheel, wouldn't try two bumper pulls. Would definitely be having good brakes and lights.

Then i HAVE to take the camper wheeling and I have a extra wasted prox. 15 ft of trailer I wont use camping.

I'm just thinking aloud of things I could do, I've never been huge on the "toy hauler" idea.

k "not buying today or tomorow even" man
