good morning naxja...

so in a very unpleasant turn of events, i am now driving to new york again instead of flying. the whole scenario is stupid and im a little grumpy about it, knowing full well that the tires on my xj probably won't survive the round trip. i did find a nice set on craigslist that im going to pick up, but im not sure if any tire places will be open when i get off work, so i might start heading down the road. my guess is that i will probably get into ohio tonight and wake up there tomorrow. i know there aren't very many ohio guys out there, but if anyone knows of a place that will install used tires (i know they are hard to find) along i-80 i might just have to tough it out tonight and get them put on in the morning.

or if anyone has a set already mounted that they would want to sell me for cheap :) that would work too

Its not uncommon around here to have shops that install used tires. Hell, nearly every shop in town minus the big box places sell them.

I gotta say you got balls man, owning 3 Jeeps, there is no way I would atempt driving from Iowa to N.Y. in any of them. I wouldn't be afraid to gas up the Camry & go though.

I've gotten used tires mounted at wal mart.

if you're going to be near exit 186 on I71 I can hook you up with a local shop.

wally world wouldnt touch my junk.....they wouldnt mount a carry in tire off a vehicle (even though i told them it was a trailer tire and without the tire the trailer wont move. i ended up mounting it on my back porch with a butter knife and a bottle of shampoo

this will be the 6th time in 4 years the xj has made the trip. its the reason my jeep is still very streetable. i would take the subaru, but my wife hates driving the xj. plus i average about 20 mpg in the jeep and have a free place to sleep...the subie gets about 25-26 but runs on premium so in the long run its not a massive savings. now if i had a camry or civic, there would be no question. i bring tools, parts, a jack (i will remember my jack this time since i didn't last time and blew a tire) and a spare. the thing about my xj is if it makes it the first 3-4 hours, its a pretty good indication that it will make the trip just fine barring any tire explosions.

damn...maybe iowa just sucks then. there are a few shops near me that will do it, but if you don't buy the tire there (new or used) they charge $25-30 a tire. so spending $100 to have tires mounted is something i want to avoid if i can do it.

Aside from the fact that the A/C hasn't worked in 10 years, and there's no radio in it, I'd have no problem getting in my 94 on 6" of lift & 33" MT/Rs and heading for NY. It'd make it, but it'd beat my kidneys into submission.

If your on I-35 near the Minn border, I can hook ya up. That is what we would normally charge. But I take care of Jeep folks.

i should also say, my xj is only just over 4 inches of lift and i have drop brackets in front, which makes a world of difference. i also am only on 31's (something that i've been waiting to change until i re-gear) because of the amount of highway miles i put on. there are times when having the extra full inch that 33's will give me would be awesome to have, but for now its how i roll :)

plus my zj seats with the nice headrest are way more comfortable than stock seats. i have a newish a/c compressor installed to make things nice and cool. my radio kind of sucks (cd player has been dead for 4 years) but there are other things i do to keep myself awake. cell phones after 7pm, or calls to my wife are air time free so it keeps me going till the real world goes to sleep. then i push through until i get tired enough to stop and take a nap in the back which i won't be able to do if i have 4 tires sitting back there :(, but i've slept in the front seat plenty of times.

If your still in Des Moines area, give Justin a call, he may be able to hook you up

yes i am...im stuck at work for a few hours, then i have to tear ass out of here as soon as possible to get everything done before i leave
Justin is a straight up Jeep guy, he may cut you a break on the mount & balance. It's worth a try.

I'm pretty positive his is a 1/2 ton and i know for a fact that it's 2 wheel drive.

word.....im trying to figure out the difference between the different tccm modules.....turns out they are very different, looks like to do the swap i want it would take rewiring the whole truck

keep calm and carry on all

Clay is your worst nightmare when it comes to mud. If you plan on taking a dip in that stuff, make sure you wash out your brakes REALLY good or you will be replacing them in two days. Mud is fun, clay is NOT.

While I won't be pushing the sprint cars, the wax would be just so the mud comes off easily. I don't think I would have to worry about mud in the brakes.
