After what I practically gave the baby jeep away for (in my mind), my views on used XJs and their values is very jaded...

I did replace a starter on a buddy's XJ last night in 30 mins start to finish...

agreed on used XJ values...I was asked why I was not selling mine as a complete rig...my response was that I wanted more then $2000 for it :D I am compiling a list of parts and prices that I will post up in the next day or two. A part out is the only way I can get any type of $ out of my rig. It has some really good parts, but when a nonwheeler looks at a beat up bidy, they dont know what they are really looking at 9 times out of 10. I am debating on keeping the 1-tons for a future build or just letting them go as well.

I still don't know why you made that look so hard for everyone....you need new rubbers.

The front two are newer to me...

They really only suck in the mud...

Wish we were closer... i could use a front axle and steering setup...

Sad to see a 'Jeep of Beauty' go all parts... But it will live on in XX number of Jeeps...

will do. I am leaning towards a Crownline or Cobalt at this time. I had a Baja for about 5 years and really liked it, but wating to go with a little fancier boat this time. We still have the housebaot, so I am looking for a 21-23' bowrider to use to run around and back and forth with. I actually drove up to Duluth, MN to buy the Baja, so travel is no problem for the right deal.

We have a Crownline 25ft Cuddy Cabin. It has a 7.4L MPI Big Block. It will pull me skiing with no issues whatsoever. Cobalt makes a beautiful boat, as well as Chris Craft.

Stay away from Larsons and bayliners. I am not a fan of newer sea rays. But good deals can be had.

I will keep an eye out up here for you, any question just holler. We can get into more specifics about motor/drive combos and what maintenance costs will look like as well.

Used XJs don't really hold their value like XJ owners would like. Hints why JP mag calls them the budget wheeler.

Trust me, I know. I practically paid the guy to take my XJ 2 years ago. Regret that decision almost every day, but at the time it made sense.

I was close to parting it out. But I dont have the time or energy at the moment, and everything else I own needs work. I might regret it later, but it works for now...even tho I really wanted 1500 more than I sold it for...which makes me not want to buy another one for more than $500 or $1000 ever.

Rosco tried to sell a project he was building for his wife as a complete roller. He ended up parting it out and get more than he was asking for just the roller.

I was asking $3000 for the '91 and had zero takers for a year.

I made $3000 on the stuff I sold, still have the drivetrain and gave the body to Doug with a clean title.

Ok, you got me...both trailers have new rubber on them this year.

Her car is getting there, my truck is there, my buggy is past due....

Meh. It has potential, but I don't want to inherit a lot of problems. I already know the issues with mine, which is why I'll probably end up keeping it.

I've thought about Chaz's MJ, mainly because I know where it comes from and what has been done to it, but I've gotten spoiled by having A/C and a nice interior :D Especially since I wheel the easy trails more often than not any more.

Very possible. There are a lot of junk XJs on craigslist.

Posted a feeler thread for the ZJ in the MWC classifieds. Don't really want to sell it, but I kinda want a 5 speed XJ or MJ. Thought about swapping an AX15 into the ZJ, but that would turn into a never ending project.
behind a 5.2? Not sure I'd do that (I hear it can be done with a 3.9L manual bellhousing and possibly minor machine work), but an NV3500 bolts right up!

so...im selling an np208 for $50...now a guy from washington wants to buy it. seems like it wouldn't be that hard to find locally. my gut tells me it will be way more than its worth to ship it...

anyone ever try to ship one? seems silly to me

I shipped a 242 to PA several years ago. I packed it in a plastic tote from wallyworld and sent it UPS. Not too bad.

I did a lot of research on it back when my ZJ was nice. You are right that a 3.9 bellhousing will get it done, but then the starter is on the driver's side (Dodge starters are on DS, Jeep starters are on PS). It looked to me like the exhaust could be rerouted after the manifolds to make it work though. I saw 2 cases online where someone had a shop move the starter pocket to the passenger side and TIG it in place. I'd worry about having it all aligned perfectly though. Still, it would be awesome and damn near one-of-a-kind.

It's a sad day Tyler... had you decided this before FestFest, I would have planted some bills in your hand and weighed down the Camry :D I might have to give you a call and figure out what you're willing to ship...
