my cousin joined the marines a while ago, and was eventually discharged for medical reasons. her little brother is all hoo-ray, go marines. and hes the quietest, most timid kid, and has ambitions to join i think (hes 19 i think? idk...). i seriously dont think its his calling. im not knocking his ambitions, but i lived the first 20 years of my life in the biggest military hub in the world. both of my parents are navy. he would get eaten alive.
but any-hoo, i got a forwarded mass text from him about some marines contacting starbucks, claiming how much they love the coffee, and if they would send any overseas. i guess starbucks responded saying thank you for the patronage, but they do not support the war. so here is my cousin, "boycott starbucks, rabble rabble rabble. they are un-american! rabble rabble rabble." now, living in norfolk, i find marines to be the worste kind of person. im not saying anything about what they go through or do for our country... but i find the majority of them to be shotty people. while not all, the "jarhead" stereotype defines a lot of them.
my response, "starbucks is a privately owned company. outside of the laws, rules, and regulations that govern any food service business, they are not owned or controlled by the government. are you saying they are not entitled to their own opinion? sounds pretty "un-american" to me..."
(DISCLAIMER: i understand that a lot of us here probably have friends or family in the service, even marines. so please dont assume im speaking specifically about them. nor am i questioning your views of what is "american" or not. i just like F'in with this kid.)
i dont think we are friends on facebook anymore. haha.
