i've been browsing local jy's today and found this awesome review on google...im half tempted to go there just for fun...

"This establishment is a rubbish heap. Most of their cars are destroyed by idiots who come to take the part they want, but destroy the rest of the car to get to the part they want. And the guys at the counter???? They are imbecile's who fight like some mangy mongrels over a dead carcass. Really, I think they come from a long history of inbreeding and broken families. The 2 fat guys in the front desk cant speak properly, because they've been gobbling grease, chuggin beer and sitting on their backsides all day long. Ask them something, and their voices will make you want to go somewhere to get the part you want. Their attitudes will want you slap them so they will speak louder. If you want to meet a lowlife in real life speak to one of these 2 fatties. They usually sit in the middle of the front desk. And speaking about parts; their prices are outrageous!!!! Even if you do find some part for cheap, I honestly don't think it is worth having to go through the crappy treatment you have to go through with the two fatsos. So unless you are so desperate and willing to put up with shoddy treatment, from a shoddy establishment with useless, ignorant employees Trails End is your place. Happy Trails!! NOT"

awesome

Sounds like 83% of the junkyards I've ever been to :dunno:

After ALOT of reading yesterday, I think I have it figured out, I think. :D I guess I either have to buy that adapter plate or go with an aftermarket header which I cannot afford for quite some time. Looks like I will be driving the van for awhile as an aftermarket header is around $300.00-$400.00 or the adapter plate and two gaskets that will cost me $200.00 and then a custom exhaust on top of that.
I should just sell this jeep and get a 99 or older, this shit is pissing me off!!

You can weld. Go get a 99 down pipe and a 99 manifold at the pick n pull. Unless it is the two piece version on your "01", then you're screwed.

My plan as of now is to use the 2000 intake, 1997 gasket, 1997 exhaust manifold, and 97 down pipe. Hopefully everything will line up decent enough and work. Cross your fingers. :D

Like we discussed I think the only possible area of concern is where the 97 downpipe meets the 00/01 cat. But I'm pretty sure a sawzall, a few fluxcore booger welds, and a $5 exhaust pipe diameter adapter from your local auto parts store will fix that...

You got lucky, it's the cali emissions 00/01s that really get shafted. The federals are basically the old setup emissions wise, but bolt to the newer manifolds+heads so that chrysler didn't have to stock as many variations of the parts they needed.

Do the 00s not use the same diameter downpipe as -99? I know my buddy's 00 had a different cat and was fully welded (whereas my junk was all slip-fit and rusted-off clamps), but I never checked the diameter. I guess that would be typical Jeep to have 4 versions of the same simple part....

There are a few designs for the exhaust.

87-90 are iirc mostly the same. 4 bolt flange at the cat, half-moon hangar bracket. O2 sensor is in the manifold.
91-92 they moved the O2 sensor to the downpipe and changed the location and angle of the collector / header outlet. Kept the 4 bolt flange though (my favorite design, they are through bolts which is always nice on exhaust.)
93-95 they eliminated the 4 bolt flange and went to a welded design, iirc. Annoying as hell, I like to be able to drop my exhaust one section at a time for ease of repairs and diagnosis. They also changed pipe diameter somewhere in this range.
96-99(.0?) they added a downstream O2 sensor and changed to a round rod instead of a half moon hangar going through the bushing at the crossmember. I'm not too sure on the latter, that may have changed between 92 and 93 along with the elimination of the 4 bolt flange.
(99.5?/)00-01 (depending on market, there is a lot of BS info floating around on this and I haven't seen enough to verify or disprove it really) or so, they changed to the 0331 head and most got the federal emissions package which is just the two cast manifolds with the special downpipe that has two flanges for the manifolds, but no precats, and only one O2 sensor. From what I recall working on a friend's 00/01, the downpipe is HUGE. Like 2.5-3" I'd have to guess. Anyone know for sure? I also seem to recall there being a flange before the cat again, when we were working on sheepjeep's 00/01 the welds holding the flange onto the pipe all popped at just the wrong time and billyjp2 almost lost his teeth to it falling on him. I can't recall the flange design very well, iirc it was a 3 bolt one with spring loaded bolts.

Someone got focked up on Long Island's last night. I ain't naming no name's[michael], but it's gonna be a long day, good thing it's my day off.

I are confused.

I kindof am also. I think at this point my main concern is What Talyn posted up about.

They don't align because the exhaust ports on the later 0331 head are higher and match the stock manifolds pretty well. When you put an earlier head on the header doesn't match resulting in ~1/8" wall for the exhaust gas to hit on the way out. This can be ground away but you still have the problem of very little over lap on the sealing surfaces at the bottom of the port.

But here I think he is talking about using the 2000 exhaust manifold and I will be using the 1997 exhaust manifold, so, I am not to sure yet how things are going to line up. The 2000 motor will be out today and tomorrow I can get the 1997 intake/exhaust gasket to see how things are going to line up and seal up.
