Important

What's the part number on the hitch? Same strip part number in the 94-96 and 97+ parts catalogs. AFAIK, the holes the frame, the hitch, the hardware, the nutstrips are all the same. We put a hitch from a 00 on my friend's 96 as well, and it all lined up.

i beleve your right, my hitch is from a early 90's xj

the holes in the hitch don't look right...

do the nut strips line up with the holes on the XJ?

I still think i have the wrong nut strips honestly. The Diagram with five bolts looks like it will line up perfectly.

Not mine

Hitch came off an 01 supposedly. I got it from a Jeep yard in Vincennes. Says 01 cherokee on the hitch.

As for the XJ, I don't know, I don't have a paved driveway or a dry space to get under it right now.

Another reason I think the nut strip is wrong is when I looked up the Jeep part, it had five bolts also, mine only has four.

the one pictured is what a stock one looks like i thought JCR just diched the "outside of frame rail" part

01 Cherokee in a sticker or something the junk yard wrote on it?

if it turns out to be from a 01 Grand Cherokee how much you want for it :D

It is what the yard wrote on it. If it is from a Grand (which I doubt since I said not grand a few times), what I paid for it (about 70 with taxes).

But since I just did a part number search and this came up with the same part #.

It is for an XJ.

That's an XJ hitch then. The "leg" on the strips goes toward the front of the Jeep, and should point out. The hole on that end should line up with the front-most hole on the hitch, and should match at least 2 other holes, or at least be very close.

Google JCR strip hitch site:naxja.org, and throw in variations of install, drill, line up, etc. This has been done enough, there will be numerous threads, and I'd bet you're not the only guy to have trouble with this. You might just need to drill a hole or two in the hitch and be ready to go.

Using information Hubs posted...

Back two holes in black are fine.

Front hole (not the very front hitch hole) bolt will go through the hole but not thread. The bolt for the nut strip right behind the front bolt doesn't even have a hole. Think I will have to just spend 46 plus dollars on new nut strips unless someone has some here that have five bolts.

Grab a dremel and open the hole up a little bit? Your description of front on what is the rear, and vice versa, is kind of confusing. Red X almost fits, red question mark no hole?

Thats what my nutstrips look like......

Flexd'they probably gave you the hitch from a grand'XJ

I'd grab a rat tail file and expand the holes out a little bit. Just use some grade 8 washers that fit and it will be perfectly fine.

I agree with Ken, "Bolt on" isn't always bolt on......

A drill bit is a lot cheaper than another hitch or more nuststrips. The JCR strips work with a XJ hitch. The factory ones work with and XJ hitch. Using the transitive property you learned in algebra and geometry, means they all fit an XJ. I remember them being a mite confusing when I tried working with them the first time. Make sure the holes on the hitch line up with the holes in the frame rails. If they don't, drill some more holes in the hitch, wallow them out, do whatever it takes to make that sucker fit.

The 1, 2, 3, 4...FIF (5th) hole to the rear of the small hump on the factory strip goes to the rear and fits over the lip at the rear of the uni-rail. The JCR strips don't have that and it's ok.

You can figure it out. I have faith. If the holes in the hitch line up with the holes in the XJ, you're just missing a small detail. You'll get it.

Sorry all, been eating with friends.

Question mark is no hole on hitch. X almost fits. It probably won't get on until WF and I am fine with that. At least the passenger side should be good with the factory nut strip. I know this group will get it on, I just want to pass tech. Just hope my front hooks are good, I had a garage put them on and they have already been tugged on by a winch and stayed on.

Well.. one step forward... one step backwards... means you aren't really moving anywhere...

On Monday my water heater conked out after I left for work. I re-lit it that night.. it conked out sometime Tuesday overnight. With the wife not working, I didn't really want to hammer what savings we had with buying a new one. I told her to call the local plumber to see if it could be saved. He came to look at it... and found a dead starling down in the exhaust clogging it up. After cleaning the bird out, he re-lit it. And it blew up on him. He took the safety door right in the face.

So I had to bite the bullet and get a new one. So $400 later I come home with all the stuff to install it. We had our first regular hot showers here since Monday... Having to bum a shower off my buddy really sucked donkey nuts.

On Friday, my wife got a call from a large truck stop/C-store operator about a second interview on Monday. They posed a question to her that we never ever, ever contemplated with her job. They asked would we be will to relocate.... We had always assumed that it would be my job asking us to do that and she would become a stay at home until we got moved... That coupled with a company in that particular industry looking for folks to move just kind of left us stunned.

make sure your nutstip lines up with the holes in your Jeep, this will be the first thing to do. if they don't then you're sol with the nutstrips you have.

go back to the junk yard and tell them they didn't give you the nut strips with the hitch, which i'm sure are still in the frame of the doner jeep. I'd bitch if they won't give them to you.

Went to IHOP this morning for breakfast, yummy.

then to a birthday party for T's nephew's 85 miles away, got there and found out the party was postponed due to the little one having a fever. we missed the message on the vm.

then went to movie store and bought Hangover 2, and a couple of action flicks, then to Meijer for food. dinner and a brief surf of the N and now it's time for a movie.

You aren't putting much effort into this.....Its simple to put a hitch on. I can't lift more than 15 pounds and I did this by myself.

do you drink terre?

i find that beer makes jeep parts fit better...

ate dinner out and must not have settled well, had to drop a deuce on the side of the road....
