Important

I love the setup I got going right now, don't get me wrong. I finally don't have some crazy ass truck payment (at least in my mind), and I have a nice climate controlled place to sleep and could throw my tent away. That said, I have always thought that a class B or C motorhome with a compact diesel 7.3/6.0/6.4/5.9 or the like would make an awesome tow rig. Plus being that they are usually less than 30 ft you'd get under the 65 ft length to haul two...yes you would have to beef the hitch frame up on most.

As much as I like the Uhaul or Brians bus, I also like going 70 to 75 in heated leather or cold a/c...

with the proper gears my junk will do 70.

I think the weinerbox is going to get cut down. the FRP repair is cost prohibitive and raw material is nearly impossible to get. So I can shorten the box to just the living quarters that are up front now, flatbed the rest and haul the Jeep outside. I'll basically end up with the room of a pickup truck camper, just with taller ceilings. At least it will be easier to keep climate controlled. The plus side is that I will also lose a thousand pounds of plywood.

lighter is better right?

as to get there today, sure you can, it's going to cost you 36 grand.

87 'too cheap for that' manche

I don't have 36 grand in my current setup...

And the truck camper is paid for, the truck I got a great deal on.

And it will get me there today.

That motorhome is a wet dream...I'd have to sell what I've got and buy it before someone else did. I just think it would be a sweet set up.

I like your uhaul, and I'm glad it works for you. I also can't wait to see it next week.

Anyone near Monroe, MI?

There's an XJ forsale there that the committee may want someone to look at.

I've been trying to talk the wife into letting me retrofit an amber lamps into a tow rig. I work on our local fleet and could score a retired one for pretty cheap. Strip the decals, leave the lights and let's go!

I'm not really a fan of owning/driving something that I know people have died in...

those new international's are bad azz!

Agreed, but everytime I see one I think of this:

I'm a fan of the new grills on the Internationals. Definitely stands out on the road.

Been reading hillbilly hauler stuff and browsing craigslist and pondering all day, I think I'm going to look for a slightly bigger trailer (probably gooseneck, but bumper pull would be fine) and get a pop-up and set it sideways up front, and then have room for one vehicle. Unless I find a really good deal on a two-place but even then I don't think I'm ready to spend as much on a trailer as I did on the truck quite yet. I am thinking pop-up instead of slide-in because I don't necessarily need all the amenities, just a place to sleep that's a little nicer than a tent.

Pop-ups are nice because they got more space and sleep more, even the small ones. I'm seriously considering buying a 20' enclosed trailer and dumping the Bounder. this would also allow me to store the jeep in it instead of using garage space. build beds, add windows and a roof air conditioner/heater.

I'm always dreaming of the perfect set up. I think I'm pretty dang close now with being able to haul two around. That said, I'm always thinking, looking, dreaming...thus the 7.3 class b. The other option that I would consider is a gooseneck enclosed with living quarters up front and room for two in the garage...that or a hillbilly hauler with an open deck...all nice ways to roll down the road.

Dan, you better make sure that your junk will fit in an enclosed before you buy one. Also, make sure that its got at least 5200# axles for a 10,400 gross...the smaller ones wont cut it...but then what will you pull it with?

Let me know if you get real serious. My brother has a basically brand new enclosed trailer that he wants to sell. Only has a few hundred miles on it and he ordered it extra wide with upgraded axles, alloy wheels...it's real nice.

Just out of curiosity could you see what he wants for it? Guessing it won't be cheap.

I considered the enclosed trailer route like what Rev does, only downside I see being the mileage hit and pulling a sail like that on windy days. But once you unload the vehicle you've got tons of space, just have to make sure all your amenities fold up or are out of the way.
