not illegal to own a still, illegal to use it in the manufacture of spirits intended for consumption.

So as long as that's a piece of "lab equipment" and it's capacity is less than a gallon...

i looked up indiana laws and ive spoken with local law enforcement friends of mine. from both sources i was told that making an alcoholic beverage for personal consumption is not illegal. as long as it is under 50gal a year. doesnt matter if its wine, beer, shine, or whatever.

thats just what ive been told.

and if people are going to get bent out of shape over it. then yes, 87 manche is right. it is a still replica, it doesnt work.

Brewing is not illegal. Distillation *IS* illegal, at the federal level, for consumption. That is, unless you jump through hoops and pay all of the taxes.

got that covered, I'm down about 28 lbs in the past 7 weeks

Tell them the real reason you go to the gym every day dude! :D

ok, i will politely tell my sources that they were wrong and they need to double check the laws as do i. thank you for informing me.

its a still replica, it just looks like one. it probably would never work anyways.

Not for personal use, only if you make it to sell it.....

thats what i thought. but oh well, either way i DO NOT make it. to drink nor sell.

indiana law websites point to "no".

Spirits

You cannot produce spirits for beverage purposes without paying taxes and without prior approval of paperwork to operate a distilled spirits plant. [See 26 U.S.C. 5601 & 5602 for some of the criminal penalties.] There are numerous requirements that must be met that make it impractical to produce spirits for personal or beverage use. Some of these requirements are paying special tax, filing an extensive application, filing a bond, providing adequate equipment to measure spirits, providing suitable tanks and pipelines, providing a separate building (other than a dwelling) and maintaining detailed records, and filing reports. All of these requirements are listed in 27 CFR Part 19.

Spirits may be produced for non-beverage purposes for fuel use only without payment of tax, but you also must file an application, receive TTB's approval, and follow requirements, such as construction, use, records and reports.

I'm thinking that I'm happy that I like to drink beer.

Too much gov regulation to make your own shine.

I'm right there with ya. I don't disagree that there's an attraction to distilled spirits.... but the potential penalties are pretty stiff.
