How the heck does Nick get away with running CVs, and I run them open on 31s and break a shaft? On the hills in Green trail nonetheless...

Because Nick knows how to drive and doesn't have a V8! :D

Um, the ZJ CVs are strong. The XJ CVs aren't.

Sorry, I can't be any more specific than that...

I think the V8 might have something to do with it.

Ah, alright. I would guess it's a ZJ shaft, but who knows, someone could have pulled an XJ one at a yard and swapped it at some point in the past 16 years. I have a spare set of 297 u-joint shafts so it's no big deal to me, just a little surprised I broke one.

I meant that the ZJ shaft, designed for V8 torque, will stand up well to (XJ) 4.0 power levels. (Like Nick runs)

If the ZJ shaft is actually IN a V8 ZJ, you don't get the same advantage-over-stock...

I've broke one while wheeling.I was climbing a steep hill in the quarry ,had the skinny pedal mashed. So,I'm amazed how well the CVs hold up too. One of the advantages with the CVs is when it breaks you can continue to wheel to a safe spot to change it without worry about it binding and popping a balljoint.

Your V8 will produce more low-end torque than my 4.0 HO with the comp cam... Just broke one? Honestly,I wouldn't give up on them just yet.

Good point, I guess when a U-joint goes you probably want to stop right there so you don't lose a shaft, or even worse pop out a ball joint. Locking hubs would help quite a bit since I could disengage everything and it would sit there and not spin.

Given the shape of everything else on the ZJ, I figure it's the original CV so it has 16 years of wear and 175k on it. So yea, maybe I'll just get a new one and run it till it breaks. $70 for a CV vs. $20 for a U-joint for the spare shaft I have, plus who knows if the yokes are still true on it.

I put a different air filter on it before I went out there, maybe that gave me too much power. :D

Just got back from a nice weekend trip to Milwaukee with my best friend.
She scored two suite tickets for Nickleback/Shinedown/Breaking Benjamin.
It was a good show, too much free JD and coke.....
Went to the Harley Museum Saturday. They had one of each in there including "no. 1"!
Now for a nice evening motorcycle ride, probably going to Blackhawk Statue.

:sunshine:Its a might toasty here. Way better than the 2 weeks of rain we just had!

I am beat all to hell...Camille and I moved cattle all day and finally came in and showered up for the evening..I was wondering why we were hungry...forgot to eat all day :chef: so humid and muggy out we just drank gallons of water all day long...

Put a fresh coat of paint on the Jeep today. I'll post pics when I get it all put back together.

Man I am keeping that one on the clipboard so I can paste it any time you bitch about anything. :D

Yes a warm day today, the high hit 90*. The humidity was killer though. But not when you go spend the day on the water :D. Hit the water at 1:30 and we finally got out at 10:30. I am gonna be sore tomorrow after the tubing that we did.

hahahaa........SHUUUTTTTT UP! :D

touche' my friend, touche'

Cheese "I sounded like Aaron...kill me now" Man

Don't be so hard on yourself! At least you realize this and are taking corrective measures. Too bad for Aaron that no matter what he does he will always sound like himself. :D

Where is that guy, he hasn't posted here in forever (17 hours?)
