Important

Ooffff. The cynic in me wants to know just what the heck is wrong with that house and/or lot.

http://chixjeff.dnsalias.net/house is what my g/f & I just bought. And for a fair bit more than that, but *FAR* less than what it would have been in the Chicago area.

Holy crap!!!! Any decent paying jobs down there????

No.

We want to know the same thing. First thing I want to know is if it was affected by the huge flood we had last year. Check this link; you can see how close it is to the river.

So far we have only looked through the windows, and all of the rooms are wood paneled. I imagine it's so cheap because it's not been remodeled.

Your new place looks really nice Jeff, congrats!

Have fun trying to get flood insurance on that....
I don't know how strict all lenders are, but mine wouldn't loan me a penny without flood insurance. So I pay $1.25 a year for it.

After looking at that map, I'd be concerned about flood damage as well. Shouldn't be too hard to determine if you can get inside.

The house we just bought is only a few hundred yards from the Cannon River, but significantly above the river. The basement floor is probably minimum of 15' above the river, and looks like the highest house in the neighborhood.

that house would be saweet... id give anything for a garage. scratch that id give anything for a pad with four walls and a roof...
lemme kno if ya get it ill help ya move.

Luckily (for us) the levee broke on the IL side several miles upstream last year, so I doubt the river got close to this house. We're still going to investigate though. Our appointment is Tuesday afternoon.

Tim - I'll remember that :D You'll always be welcome to wrench on your junk there if we get it.

Right now it is unlikely we will be able to move, but we would really like to. It would double our space and cut our mortgage payment in half (how often does that happen?).

Nope... neither of us work here... and its gonna be hard for my property values to go down. I'm worried about the local car dealers though... how are the folks living in the welfare housing gonna buy new cars without $7.00 an hour jobs????

What happened? With G-MA being in NC for the last 4 months, I haven't heard any news from up there. JIM.

Does the jeep fit in the garage? That door's looking kinda low.

If you are talking about the one Byron posted, they look like 7' doors to me. If they are it will fit. JIM.

Nope. I was wondering about Jeff's.

So when do I get to come over and help you drink some beers in your new house Jeff?

Watt Publishing closed and moved to Ghettoford. Quebecor cut the entire third shift and 90% of the second. Kable News bought another company, and when the village idiots wouldn't give them any tax incentives to build a new building, they announced they are closing the call center and moving the 450 jobs to FL. Rumor now is they will move the IT folks next.

Da Heep fits nicely through a 7' door, and got moved into it's new abode yesterday. The Dodge, not so much.

Hopefully, the painting will be finished this week. Do a little electrical work (add a welder outlet, a dryer outlet, a couple GFCI outlets in the basement, etc.) and do a quick clean on the carpets by Sunday. I'd like to get most of the garage stuff moved this week (don't bet on it) and the pro movers are working April 13 and 14. I'm hoping to be able to take a deep breath around the first of May.

Everyone buying houses.
No one's got any love for casa de roxtar?
