Ok computer guys, I have an external hd, says it can't write, can't finish, or error, something to that effect, g:\$mft I can see the first level of folders, but that is it. Any chance I can save anything on it? Have about 5 years worth of pictures and music I'd like to keep.

is there a write-protection switch of some kind you may have triggered

So I turned off the cache, I think thats what I was suppose to do, that should fix the problem in the future should I get it working. How about what was already on there?

BTW, I did google that last night and didnt make much of it, must have been too tired and frustrated.

Ok so I just turned it off on my c drive, checked the right one and it was already set to "optimize", no cahce.

stop F'ing with it, if you want any chance o saving the data.

Likely the External; HDD is failing, and the CRC errors are causing it to stop responding.
