Jealous of the KBC! I will be camping up there this coming weekend. It's quite the haul for you, had some snow in western WI when leaving Bloomington this morning, but that was fading fast.

heading south for the Thanksgiving wheeling trip and the tail wind helped me barely keep over 8 MPG...heading home yesterday w/ a hell of a head wind and I could barely keep an avg of 6 MPG. We are going to look at new diesels at the begining of the year.....my buddy was driving his Duramax w/ loaded trailer and pulled @ 19 MPG, but all things aside he has about $4000 in upgrades done to it so it really will take a lot of miles and fuel savings to get that back.

Was that with the Tahoe or your truck? Were you going 70-75?

$4000 *is* a lot to make up for, but I bet it's way more fun to drive with those upgrades, which helps a lot. Plus if he drives it every day then the better mileage around town adds up quick.

it was with the truck and I was running about 75 mph. when I kick it down to @ 65 mph I can pull in the 9+ mpg range. The Tahoe pulls like a dream and gets around 11 mpg on an average long trip running @ 75 loaded w/ the trailer.

Mac, were you filling up at the BP by State Road 25 and I65 yesterday afternoon?

yes that was me...

mac '10 mpg @65 mph with over 20k going down the road...which is really 20 mph with someone paying have the fuel bill' gyvr

Yea, I was on my way back into Lafayette and saw the huge trailer and thought "someone had fun at the badlands" then 1/2 mile later realized "I know who that was."

Going to look at a Jeep later this week... thought it'd be nice to have a break for a while, but now I'm itching to get something built and get back out there.

WF is approaching quickly...

Finally was curious enough to see what was "grinding" under the hood. Excessive side play in the distributor shaft was found. Not exactly stoked about that... seems as I'm just gonna try to replace it. Had I been at home home, I'd have just gone and grabbed a dizzy from a c4c XJ or ZJ. But I can't do that.

At 210,000 some shtuff is bound to happen right?

That's actually a pretty simple swap considering that your engine is still running.

Yeah I know you (i think) sold Austin one here recently and i just have to mark some stuff. How exactly would it be harder if it weren't running? other than just adding to the pain in the ass.

'twarn't me that sold it to Austin.

Actually, the minor misery would be if someone spun the engine over without the distributor in place, broken shaft, etc. Then you have to find TDC on #1 on the compression stroke, and point the rotor tip at the #1 wire. More of a PITA than misery, really.

The super simple way to replace that distributor is to mark on the old housing where the rotor is pointing. Loosen the clamp bolt, and remove the old distributor. Because the gears are helical and not square cut, the rotor will spin on the way out. Slide the replacement distributor back down, and make sure that the rotor ends up pointing at the same spot on the housing. You might have to reach down to the oil pump with a long shaft flat blade screwdriver to turn it a bit to get the end of the shaft to engage.
