Thanks for the replies guy's. Now I gotta pull the cover & see if it's 27 or 29 spline, or get to know the dealership parts gal better & run the VIN. Damn 96 XJ's.

Pulling the vin (build sheet) won't tell you chit. My '96 was built in 10/96 and it was 29 spline. Read the build date off the sticker on the drivers door. Seems that the closer to '97 it was built, the better the chance it is 29 spline. Only way to tell for sure though is to pull the shaft and count.

FWIW, I'm locked in the front only and it's great. Mostly invisible in 2wd and great in 4wd. We don't get much snow here, but I have never had a problem in snow with only the front locked.

well, just back from the dealer. SHE, I say again, SHE said 96 and up 8 1/4 rears were all 29 spline. 95 and below were 27 spline. But then she asked why I needed to know and told I was gonna lock it, I got that deer in the headlights look.

Talk about a waste of 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

Welcome to the parts counter!

Which reminds me, I need to get a new hood release cable for my 94.....

I can hear her laughing to the other parts guy after you leave.
"What an idiot, he's gonna pull the axles because he needs a new key?!" :dunce:

Now you got me started. So our Napa sales rep comes in yesterday, say's his brother is selling his yota. And he wants to swap the tires and wheels from the yota to his stock Isuzu Trooper.

Wants to know how much, so I tell him $30 and ask if the bolt pattern is the same. He say's yep, "but wondering if they will rub". I ask why? He says they are 33X12.5. At that point I just shook my head and walked away

Congrats!! Now you can start buying more Jeep parts and say that they are for your son...well, at least that is how I justify alot of my purchases!!

I just found out today that I will be spending most of the month of January down in balmy Camp Shelby, Mississippi. I guess I will be missing a majority of the cold weather this year.

Fo' sho. We will have to start an annual MWC Kids Run.

Caitlyn is already all about the XJ, she calls my 91 her Jeep :D She will be old enough this spring to go out wheelin. Too bad WF and Fall Fling will probably be our only scheduled trips next year.

Old enough this spring?

I remember FarmerMatt doing Mickey's Hot Tub out in Moab a few years back...... one of his kids was ASLEEP in the car seat behind him!

I'm already planning on buying each kid a Jeep of their own around their 13th B-day, and letting them build it with their money. Kinda like I did.

Its times like these that it really sucks to be working on the road...

Wife just called me, she is trying to hang some Christmas stuff using fishing line. Instead of using one of the half dozen zebco 202s or 303s that I have (that she knows how to use), she decided to try to strip line off of my best open-faced reel. She said she had a huge mess of tangled line and wanted me to tell her how to fix it over the phone.

If it helps any, I spewed whiskey on the keyboard when I read that.:eeks1:

I thanked my self for having a personality to reject most women, I don't fish, but I'm sure it would be something else.
