Important

You either need a big paper to roll it in or newspaper, but that is nasty.
Also, they are hard to keep lit.

Seriously, this is a good method for a grill.

There are a couple other videos out there also, but I like this one.
One of the the guy who made the video is more baked than the turkey, do not use his.
A good brine, and lots of charcoal and wet wood chunks.
Keep the fire smoking and don't open the lid only to ad fuel to the fire.

i think my biggest issue would be knowing when its done. i know when my pork and brisket is done but poultry always makes me a little nervous. its hard enough to cook a turkey in the oven and not dry it out let alone on the grill.
i should be fine but just that whole "never done one yet " thing

Buy a good meat thermometer like this one.

I have one that has a magnet and stick it right a not to hot place on the grill.
It has an alarm that goes off when a preset temp it reached.
You can not be a good griller and not have a thermometer.
Kohls, or Target even Wally World will have one for under $10.00
But get one that is remote so you do not have to open the lid....

We will be doing it again this year with a new course. The course sucked last year. I pre scouted what could be a nice long run in the Quarry a couple weeks ago if it is still as smooth by the time WF rolls around.

Ram" Team owner this year" Rod.......

Dammit we burned all of them lol

I actually have a couple of those and about 4 of the plain stick analog ones. i really like them. the one i have is portable also, so i can have it clipped on my hip and go play a round of bags or shoes and still keep an eye on it.
what i want next is a digital therm for the acual gril temp that can sit outside of the grill. i dont using the crap the grill came with i use one of these
https://www.bigkitchen.com/product/...-474438/Kitchen_Tools-Thermometers_and_Timers
but i have to open the grill to check it. i dont like doing that, so id like to get something like this next
http://www.sausagemaker.com/49739remotesmokerthermometer.aspx

this past summer i think i had a bad brisket because my digital thermometer was pulling different temps and was being confusing as hell. brisket ended up tough and i wrapped it and put it back on the heat. at 1st i thought the therm screwed me but by the time that brisket was tender it had cooked for almost 18 hours and it wasn't even that big. so i concluded that the piece of meat itself must just have been of bad quality

did someone buy the HNT cut/drill guide last year? i will need one eventually if someone wants to sell it to me, or let me borrow it. probably not till after winterfest.

Me. It's not for sale, but I'll be in the ft Wayne area the same weekend you're traveling to Iowa. Just ship it back to me when you're done

cool...i won't need it for a while, so i may just get it at wf, then ship it back. there really isn't a snowballs chance in hell of my jeep being lifted before wf.

I hate dead trees in my house.

^this

my wife loves them tho...

we haven't even set up a big tree in the house tho the last two years

I have a fake 6 foot tree in the garage...sometimes with a custom tree topper.

mac 'trying not have a real tree this year either' gyvr

I am looking into using something like those BBQ temp alarms to monitor the wood stove. Would be awesome to have an alert when it drops below a certain temp to help me keep the temps from fluctuating in here.

All the ingredients for my tube fenders should be in by this weekend. I hope they turn out nice because I have been so broke I regretted ordering the stuff right now. Just my luck that we were hit by a bunch of unexpected expenses right after I pulled the trigger.

I don't remember ever having a live tree for Christmas. When Sarah and I have children, we plan on having a live tree once. We have one more small tree for Sarah (a purple one) to put up inside and three for outside. We are not even using the artificial tree we used last year since we got a 10' one this year.

Yes, we have it up already even though it isn't Thanksgiving. Given the circumstances this past weekend, it provided about three hours of distractions.

I have the iro tool that has been passed around the MWC. You can take it when we meet up and send it back whenever or to the next person who needs it. I don't need it

Re: Re: Important

As soon as I find a front driveshaft I'm planning to order this.
http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merc...e=IROR&Product_Code=IR-XHNT&Category_Code=PFY
Is it worth the extra 20.00 for the tap and the 30 for the guide? The idea of hacking and tapping my output shaft is nearly terrifying to me but I guess it's kinda like sex. There is only one first time.

Tardy"gotta tap dat on the cheap" boy.
Yes, it a worth the guide, but I own one that you can borrow for a 12 pack of bud light bottles and you help me drink them.
