Important

Being self employed, my cell is my work phone. It pisses me off when people call me at 9:00 pm to discuss things that we could have discussed at 3:0OPM. Then they can't figure out why I am pissy.

I have a work pager...

And pages get texted to my phone...

I only answer mine when I feel like it. Not too often at 9:00 pm. If they think it's important enough, they can leave a message, then if I think it's important enough I'll call them back. As the saying goes, "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part"

Being self employed shouldn't mean you're always on the clock.

If my boss called me at nine I just wouldn't answer.

I have work phone. It shuts off at 5 pm everyday unless its my day on call. Im very insistent on my time being just for me

I'd love it if I had a work phone. Then I could do this. Instead I have to use my personal phone and get calls and texts from crews I've worked with at often late hours, thanks to the amount of work I do in California. Whether or not I answer after hours depends on my mood, the day, and my sobriety.

I am getting grouchy in my early old age. I dont answer 1/2 my calls bc I just dont want to talk to some people. If it is important, they will leave a message. I text, but it is another thing where if I wanted to have a lengthy conversation, I would call them, not text for an hour....I still dont understand that.

In other news, the front clip for the C10 is painted and on, going to body shop tomorrow to pick up. Once the bed is done, it is registration time! I am stoked to get to start using it as my DD, but snow is gonna suck Sean's ballz to drive in...good thing I have a couple XJ's sitting around right now.

Prop balancing? Vibration analysis?

Rotor track and balance. It's a finicky animal on a tiltrotor because you have to track the blades like a helicopter for vibration reduction, but you also have to control mast torque and vibrations when it's an airplane with the same pitch link and tip weight adjustments. We track and balance in 6 different flight regimes.

This seems much more common in the civilian world, where you are responsible for you. In the military world, you are responsible for you and 80 other idiots. When they do dumb shit, they don't ask them, they ask you why you didn't stop them from doing dumb shit.

If my boss called me at nine I just wouldn't answer.

There are very few jobs in the world anymore where you punch a clock and ignore your boss when you want to. They're usually more associated with jobs than careers.

My boss is great, if he texted me I'd reply but at 9 o'clock in the evening I don't want to talk about work. I've finally got a couple guys I work for who give a Damn about their employees and they don't generally bug us during our personal time.

I try at all costs NOT to call text hourly associates when they are off duty. There are a couple that don't mind and I will call /text them. But these are also the same people who want to move up in the organization and aren't happy just pushing buttons all day.

Right, I don't really mind it at all now but one of my previous bosses got ignored no matter what because he didn't value any of us. I've been called to come look at a machine at 6 in the evening before and done it gladly but at 9 when I'm winding down, forget about it.

They used to pay us in comp time to take off later...

Then they wouldn't hire enough people so we could take days off...

So instead of hiring more people...they are paying us our OT...

Next year at this rate, they are going to be buying my time back too.
