My headlights go out all the time. The main bulkhead connector under the airbox for the headlamp harness is corroded. Been that way for some time. When they go out I just smack the harness and they come back on.
This is on a 91.

you crack a 3/8 flange on the exhaust manifold...
your upgraded headlight harness relays take 3 minutes to warm up before they'll engage...

Drove the XJ to work today....a 5' snow drift has the Denali, loader tractor and skid steer all blocked in until later. The XJ did well....but I missed the heated seats in 4 degree weather.
