Important

For $650, I would have been scared. What's wrong with it?

XJosh 'If it sounds too good to be true...' 95

basically, heres the short version of the story...

someone traded this in at the local dealership on a newer vehicle...the local dealership gave it a good once over and decided to wholesale it it a local reseller for what it was worth to them (about $900) it will not pass inspection right now...airbag light is on, tre's are shot, needs new unit bearings, probably needs new balljoints (not sure yet) needs new brakes, water pump, possibly a radiator, and a few other things. new york dealers cannot re-sell a vehicle that won't pass inspection, so this re-seller bought it to repair it and sell. he is not mechanical and im sure once he saw the bill to do all the front end work he decided it wasn't worth it to him...a bill for all that probably could easily be $1500-2000 in work in new york. at that point he would need to sell it pretty high to make a profit. he advertised it out of state (he was subject to the same inspection laws as the big dealerships) saying he would not sell it to someone from out of state. the price started at $900...it was at $750 when i found it, and by making a slip of the tongue on his part, he sold it to me for $650...

i can find about 30 wj's that are being parted out near me within an hour so i have a lot of parts to choose from, plus i was planning on doing some work on whatever i was going to buy anyway. it will eventually become my dd once we get settled in a house and get something else for melissa. the only weak spots on these that i can find are 1.) they are underpowered...no biggie, i don't have a heavy foot and i drive an xj with 300k, and 33's with stock gears. it feels like a race car to me. 2.) bad trannys...plenty of spares close by 3.) 0331 head...which i will try to deal with somewhat proactively by finding a spare now with the money i saved...

Re: Re: Important

Maybe it's a good time to sell mine....

Anyone got any mpg #'s on a 318 zj?

Not gonna lie but mine got really good mileage even with it being lifted. I'm thinking I was getting somewhere around 16 out of it even on 33's. I could drive the 3 hours to the badlands, wheel all day, then normally make it about 1/2-3/4 ways back home before I needed gas again.

I'm lonely :(

I've always been a story teller...its in my genes. One of these days we will drink by a fire at winterfest, I'm told my stories are better when I drink

Sounds like the WF bonfire might be an interesting one with stories. Course some may share drunken stories that only come out when drinking. Those are normally the best.

No wf this year...not with a baby that will be 2-4 weeks old. I will be there in 2015 though. Maybe I will come to another event this year

I was hoping my cousin would make it this year but he's in the same boat as you. I'm hoping cardboard makes it but he may be wrapped around said baby's finger since is his granddaughter...... and his Jeep is still broke I think.

Come to Harlan!

Come to Harlan!

how far is harlan from louisville? one of my best buds lives there and i really want to go visit. i know we are heading back to iowa at some point this summer to visit relatives with the kiddo...maybe we will head back the long way through kentucky. we can stop in louisville and then head to harlan before we head back north...

might be a bit of a road trip for a 6 month old, but i'm sure she will get used to traveling fast
