Important

Flex and Byron, in a few weeks, I have some time off and might be heading your ways to pick up parts you have for me. Flex, probably the 11th when I go snow tubing. Byron, let me know what days you work that week and I can head down there. I could use a quickie fix.

OK, thanks for the advance notice. Send me a PM when you get all the details worked out. If anything i'll have the parts sitting out in a safe place.

I don't think anything lol.

I'll see what dad thinks, it's his car. We could meet up this week if he is interested. I'll be back in town tonight

oh ok, heck i told your dad to have some fun w/ it while we were in moab. yeah see what he says. i'm done working for week after tomorrow.

uhhhh....JJ you should trade the GTI for 2 XJ's. i'm guessing an 06 still books pretty high compared to an XJ.

youre probably right but i just want to be done w/ this car. if i cant work something out quickly here, i'm just going to take it to carmax and take whatever they will give and move on from there.

Trade it for a built XJ then!

98 ZJ 4.0 242 good tires

still a couple things I need to TLC on it, only rust is a spot on the hood and the hatch, but as soon as I find another white hatch its going to be swapped. If you are here dec 7th you can take a look and I should have about everything done...I hope...

mac 'not sure if you saw my other post' gyvr

sounds like a plan and i'm sorry i missed your other post. this damn thread moves to fast...lol

it handles snow ok but deep snow...forget about it. give me a ring if you want though. i have to figure out something. i cant keep pumping money into this thing.

long story short. took it in last friday to get get rear brakes done. today, the car is telling me to check brake fluid. i check, its a little low. then i look at the inside of the rear pass tire/rim. nice coating of break fluid. take it by the shop, get a call a hour later. "caliper is leaking, gonna be another $500 plus labor".:sure:

It sounds like whoever did your brakes messed up your caliper, if it started losing fluid after they did the brakes. That is crazy pricing though, $500 for a caliper... PLUS labor? Is there another shop you can take it to, or is that how everywhere in Chicago is? I'd be driving over the border to IN and taking it to... just about anyone.

KBB says it's worth 5 grand in fair shape, trade-in value. I've made my fair share of bad sales and trades, but you should reconsider getting it fixed somehow and selling it outright. Patience could be worth thousands in this case.

Oops, macgyvr delete my post if I'm screwing up your deal ;)

LOL, I'm just giving him options. I don't know much about the car or what its worth.

This ZJ is going to be a real nice driver by the time I'm done with it. Today I got all the turn signals working, finished cleaning the paint on the entire thing with waxing it last night. The previous owner apparently didn't know how to change light bulbs or find a car wash.

I read something that called that "structured procrastination" and it's basically the only way I ever get anything done. I come up with something I want to do even less than all the other stuff, instant motivation.

It's amazing what a car wash, vacuum and some easy maintenance does for a cheap car!

cutting solution, quick buff, and swirl remover before a nice wax...I never even washed it. Just been over all the paint four times. It sucks when you are sober, but not bad when you have had a few...

mac 'still better than changing an oil pan lol' gyvr

yeah i'm not concerned w/ what the VW might be worth. i'm just done putting money into it, thus done owning it.

oh believe me i asked him...

me - this showed no signs of leaking before i brought it in here and your guys did my brakes, so how and why is it after you finish my brakes now its leaking.

him - oh the rubber seals wear over time. the car does have 80 thousand miles on it.

me - all things wear out over time but what does that have to do w/ what i just said. it wasnt leaking when i brought it in and now it is.

him - blah blah blah breaks heat up when you use them and blah blah blah.

JJ, a friend has a 98 XJ on his lot. Outside is pretty nice, inside not so much. 4.0 with 181k on it. Auto and I think a 231. He is asking 2900, but I mentioned about your trade and he is interested. Here is some pictures.

There is some sort of hitch thing sticking out of the front. Don't know if it is a good front recovery point or not.

The hatch struts do hold the hatch up even with it being cold.

There is trailer wire harness inside also.

The headliner is 100% sagged.

The brake light is on, but he is going to have the brakes checked as they are a bit weak. The engine runs like it should but the exhaust does rattle.

It isn't that clean inside right now, but it is just dirt from what it looks like. It was smoked in also.

If you are interested, this is his phone number 812232 1650. I have no stake in this, I honestly don't know much about it other then what I moved it and ran the engine. The brakes are weak (and they will be looked at), but they do stop the vehicle. Tires are descent street tires also. Other then that, I know not a lot about it.

I don't set the prices for him, I think some of his prices are high, but this is sitting on the lot and I think a lot of the ugliness will clean up on the inside. I am willing to bet he has wiggle room built into that price, but Jeeps seem to go for golf prices at auction also.
