Important

I have them do 15% on the front windows and 15% on the back windows over the factory tint...the back ends up like 3%...limo like...

I usually pay $180 to have all the windows done with a windshield strip across the front.

Byron, that's cheap! I paid $130 to have my Grand Prix (2 door) tinted at 20%, IIRC.

I too have never tinted. I've been thinking about it doing it on the 95. I understand the concept and I'm sure I've done harder things with success.

I'd rather wind up pulling off tint and paying for it to get done professionally than ever try to install a remote car starter.

Come on, I know you know the difference between Brendan and Byron :)

I wouldn't do my own tint on my truck or DD or something that would bug me if it wasn't perfect. But with all this talk I might give it a shot on the XJ. I watched Marcus re-do his the other day and it didn't look too hard. He came out with a few bubbles but it still gets the job done.

As for remote starters, I see the merit if you live somewhere cold, but that stuff makes me cringe the way it's usually installed. Every vehicle I've gotten with aftermarket stuff gets all that wiring ripped out right away. Because when it inevitably has electrical problems, I don't want to have to be guessing whether it's a real problem or caused by hack wiring.

Just ask my GMC 'seat heaters turn on randomly' Sierra...

I've done side windows. Its time consuming. Back curved windows are impossible to DIY. I am going to due the tow pig 20%. The only thing that sucks is the rear is 97 factory tint. Has a chrome shine to it. Not like new tint. Gonna do the lil jeeps fronts. 20% matches rear factory damn near perfect.

My Jeep was tinted 4 years ago. A couple of the windows are starting to have some issues, so it will be going back for new tint shortly...

I have had about everything minus chore trucks tinted and had a guy back home do it, he was awesome at tinting, not so much on life...he is in the slammer. We got effed on this deal...her little Malibu was quoted at $180 last fall and when she went yesterday it was $255! We can do as dark as we want on back windows, but fronts can't be darker then 35% by Missouri law.....so I just had the fronts done legal and the backs done at 20% b/c I was thinking if we went darker it would make it look a little too ghetto on this particular vehicle.

We did get lifetime warranty on it though....they will get tired of seeing us :D

my cobalt was limo all the way around...

we had to roll the windows down to look for cars at night. it sucked!

I cried a little James :( just kidding I know who you are Josh.

looking at truck paint schemes while im killin time this am...would purple/gunmetal grey/black be a good combo. i can find purple and black and purple and grey, but not all 3 together. it looks good in my head, but these are also some of my favorite colors. the purple is the dark purple they used on the 97+ xj's

I've used two tint places in 10 years, both times on the MINI. If you can do the rear windshield of a cooper without screwing it up, you get paid what little extra you charge for it.

this is sort of my scheme layout i am thinking about....wrong colors of course. my thought is to do dark purple in place of the green...then either a black bottom/flare line (the part that is silver/grey on this truck) or a gunmetal grey bottom. then black wheels. thoughts? then if i get a rhino grille i was going to find one that was rusty and sand blast it to paint it black or grey to match. this is a ways off, but its in my head today.

Remote starts are fairly easy,I went to school for auto electronics, now some of the new cars have hybrid security you have to bypass but all in all its not bad with the right parts, tint is cake, been doing it for so long, and almost every back window is done in one piece anymore

had the widonws on Camilles car tinted yesterday...they effed us over big time. Every window has a problem with it (bubbles, dirt etc). Camille was the one who picked it up so she really did not think it was too bad so she paid and they said if the bubble did not go away in a few days of this heat then to bring it back....ahhh, the famous last words of a window tinter that sucks. We are leaving for Texas tomorrow and it will have 5 days in the south texas sun, if there is any bubbles when we come back, looks like the tinter will be redoing teh whole thing or refunding our money. She paid cash for it or I would have put a stop payment on the check..what a shitastic job .

I honestly could have done a job this crappy myself, but to have paid for it makes it suck that much more. Oh well, I hope they stand behind their work.

you know even the best films (llumar, etc) WILL bubble in the first few weeks... DONT ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN! for a week, up to five for bubbles and haze to clear out depending on heat and humidity.

....now the dirt, thats a shitty tint guy

UPS drive by my house several times a day, everyday during the week.

The day my shocks are to be delivered, haven't seen them once.

I'm done with this week.

So, to get off the tinting topic, I put a fuel press reg replaced in the Grand, cause when I pulled the vacumn line off it was full of fuel. It started, and I was tickled shitless, but it only ran for 30 seconds and died like someone turned the key off. Long story short, the XJ has the charger on it as I type, don't really want it to my DD, but what ya gonna do. I'm leaning on a fuel pump issue with the Grand. It has no test post, so it.s gonna be a pain in the a$$ to check. That and it's hot as fock here,

Jump the relay.

Got the XJ started after sitting for 6 monthes, Took it to lunch, I was impressed how well it drove & ran ,A/C worked still, I might just leave the Grand sit for a bit, I just hate the idea of driving on dry pavement with lockers and mud tires.

I only have a rear locker with mud tires but i daily drive mine 75 miles a day, anit no biggie
Don't get me wrong. I love the XJ it's built the way I want it & would not be be afraid to gas it up and drive it anywhere. I just liked driving the Grand better as DD, less wear & tear on the XJ. The gas milaege sucks a$$ on the Grand but I only have about a 2 mile comute to work so, it is what it is. I think the XJ is gonna be a DD for a bit till the weather cools off.
