Important

I was parked with my rear tires on ice yesterday and when i went to leave they started spinning, so i hit the brakes and the wheels kept moving

i need to do my brakes like right now but have no time after work to get them done, and i really cant afford to put it in the shop one of the techs said he is gonna help me out but i need to remind him like 3 times a day

8.25?

I had d35 drum brakes down to like 30 minutes a side I went through so many of those axles.

Yea 8.25

They would have been done a couple months ago but my limited tools and garage space turned that down

You don't need any special tools. Everything in the brake drum can be handled with a pair of pliers or vise grips. You may want a brake tool to retract the pads, but you can get by with a screwdriver.

I'd buy the pads and the hardware kit, knock the glaze off the drums with some sandpaper and reuse them unless you've gouged them badly.

Of course you may not even need new stuff, could simply be that the adjusters are stuck.

If you were nearer to me I would offer my garage, but you're at least 4 hours drive from me.

Unless they're badly rusted and the drums are realy worn you should be able to get a drum off and look inside rather easily, that's probably where I would start. It might be a half hour job to pop the drums, adjust the pads and then you're all set.

Something else to think about... if you're putting new shoes on drum brakes, the hardware kit is only a couple of bucks, and well worth replacing as a rule.

yes, always replace the hardware. the kit for a D35 was like 12 bucks. You'll probably have some extra pieces from the hardware kit because they use them for different applications.

I bought new drums, shoes and hardware kit a couple months back

the rear brakes are original they still have that little washerclipthingy on them i know they have a pretty good grove in them cause i couldn't get the drum off when i first planned on doing them, i might order new adjusters and wheel cyl just for the hell of it

i also have to do the front, bought the rotors and pads last time i checked they were getting low so by now there prolly paper thin

i need to stop being so lazy, i missed 2 wheeling trips and one meet and greet cause i didnt do this brake job yet

thanks for the motivation though talking about it makes me realize how dangerous i am being with this thing

New adjusters, absolutely. Wheel cylinders..... maybe not, as a rule, I've only replaced them once, and that was when I had the complete axle assembly out from under the Heep.

With the exception of the wheel cylinder, and the e-brake cable and actuating arm, I replace all of the hardware when I do brakes. New shoes, springs, hold-downs, adjusters, etc. If it's available across the counter, I'll replace it.

well they were pretty cheep so i ordered them any way i have seen some Ford adjusters frozen solid so i dont want to have that happen to me at a time when i cant run to the parts store

I only replace wheel cylinders when they are leaking...if i ever get around to doing the rear disc conversion (have almost all the parts) on the baby jeep, then I wont have any vehicles with drum brakes...everything will be four wheel disc...

I was up until 3AM this morning reading up on the LB7 diesels...I have a way better handle on what to look for now when we go down tomorrow to get it. If any of the indicators are there that it needs injectors, I am prepared to get a rental car and head home....or have the dealer reduce price and/or adsorb the work, but that is highly unlikely to happen I am sure. I have read just as many thread of rigs that have gone 190K+ w/o any replacements as there are rigs that went 40K and needed replaced....kind of like the threads of 2000-01 XJ cracked heads :D

I forgot to add...

make sure it has a transfer case

this

if you need a wheel cylinder I'm pretty sure I have one from a D35 that's new in the parts store bag, if I can find it.

I've also got a crap ton of random D35 brake parts, including e-brake arms, so if yours are shot LMK.

Welcome to Wisconsin and I hope to wheel with ya up here sometime!

We just started a new offroad club over here the 'Eau Claire Off Roaders' so I'm excited to have more access to trails through members now. First run is Feb 12th in Neillsville so I'll let y'all know how the Cooper STTs handle in snow!

So what was wrong with the Clearwater 4-Wheelers? Didn't like them? Just curious.

I've heard from my new co-workers that LaCrosse is the best place to do any kind of worthwhile catfishing in this state. Gee, you're not gaining any cool points this way. Anyway, I have even more reason to get up to your area sometime. If you like to fish as well, we can manage something I'm sure.

But yeah, I'm gonna get some stuff done here soon to the rig to hopefully prepare it for WF. As long as I don't ass-plode anything too important, I'm sure I will want to wheel more.

Yeh, La Crosse has had some record winning catfish come from both the Black river and Mississippi river. I fish on and off, due to school I haven't really done any the last 2 years, but tomorrow the max-bilt crew is actually going ice fishing up here, so I guess I need to get back into it ;)

Welcome to WI, there is nothing of note in the Stevens Point. To the north and east, yes.
