The Moab KOA requires those who are camping and want to have a fire to have a fire pit.
The rules for the fire pit are that it has to be above ground and it has to be covered. Non-flamable, metal fire ring, at least 6 inches above ground (use a ruler for a true 6 inches guys), and covered with a spark screen.

They do have fire rings available to rent at the campground. I was told they will be around $20 to rent for the week.
The BOD would like to make sure that folks know about the requirement of a fire ring and encourage those that are camping to think about bringing one along.
In order to do this, the BOD has decided to have a fire ring contest.
The rules for the contest will be as follows:
Fire rings will be judged by a panel of three judges who either don't have a fire ring or will exclude themselves from the contest. Fire rings will be based on originality, workmanship, artistic merit, and compliance with stated requirements.
We won't exclude anyone who buys a commercially made fire ring for the contest, but it will score low marks in many of the judging categories (unless it has a creative high temp paint applied creatively).
What's the winner get?
The winner gets a: Hooligan Off Road XJ Fire Pit Grill
This XJ Fire Pit Grill is being donated by Hooligan Offroad.
You have a little under 4 months to get your fire pit made!
Thank you to Hooligan Offroad!!!
Please note: This contest is open to anyone camping at the KOA and registered with the event between October 9th -12th. Prize will be awarded Friday evening the 12th at the dinner and raffle. If there is a fire ban in place in Moab and we aren't able to have fires, and/or no one builds a fire ring, we will raffle the prize off in the general raffle. The purpose of this contest is to have some fun and be legal with our fires.
