Ok se heres the sitch.. I took the trans out to replace the clutch. After putting it back in I had a very hard time getting the fill plug loose. It finally budged after a lot of force and I filled it back up. But when I went to tighten it, I got the bolt taught, and then it felt like it went loose again. Im thinking I stripped it so I didnt want to tighten it anymore.(but it was already pretty snug).
well I drove it like 45 miles and when i got home, I noticed it had been leaking. when I went to tighten it, it immediately snapped off with a chunk of the tranny.. :rattle:

So after leaving it parked for a few weeks and not thinking about it... its time to start thinking about it.
I think the best idea so far is to use JBweld and maybe gas tank sealer to seal a nut in the bolts place and then hand tighten another bolt into that..

But im open to all other ideas and input

I have had nothing but bad luck with this Jeep all winter...:hang: its time for that to change!!

Damn that sucks. Next time just put some silicone sealant on the threads before tightening it down that much. I would suggest replacing the transmission for a permanent fix. Any repair you make will be temporary at best and will eventually fail.

If it were me I would try to JB weld the pieces back together and permanently seal the fill plug in place. It will be a bitch but you could still fill the trans from the top through the shift tower on the top of the trans. Just remove the upper and lower shift boots, then the shifter itself, and pour the fluid in from the top.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it is 4 quarts to fill the AX15.

It sucks that i've never touched the fill plug til now, so I know I didnt tighten it that tight..

I definately want to replace the whole transmission, but I would rather try a temporary fix for now. At least for this year.

and I remember it was a PITA to get the shifter out. If I can remember correctly you need the transmission dropped enough to get your hand up there..

If you remove the 2 shifter boots, you can access the shifter from inside the Jeep. Just push down on the retainer plate and give it a 1/4 turn, it will pop right out.

The good thing is that the trans is filled with fresh fluid, so even if you permanently seal the fill plug you should be OK for the short term until you can get it fixed right.

Sorry, I'm a cheap ass and like to fix things without much cash out of pocket. :D

O yes I do remember now bryan. we had the trans already lowered a little and a person inside and under the Jeep and it was hard to reach from the inside. But ya that should be pretty easy. I just might do that. thanks for the help! :D

why not have it welded at a shop????
Dropping it is a PITA that I dont want to go through again.. already. So I figure... if im going to drop it and spend any money on it... I might as well get a new one that is in better shape.

looks to be around 100 to fix it if you bring the trans in....if the tranny is solid then thats what i would do. also...teflon tape on those threads would have solved the leaky plug :)
