Idea: Sounds crazy but a SRT4 motor in a cherokee

You could probably do a 4G63 a lot cheaper. Just a thought.

That's what I wanted to do for a long time. Build a budget 2.4L 4g63 stroker and pair it to a 700r4 tranny with a Busher adapter plate. Use a wiring harness from a 1G DSM to get it running. Just like the STR4 idea, it would be lightweight and powerful. I would probably gear the axles fairly high and maybe use a 4:1 kit in the transfer case for rockcrawling. It would be a blast on road and off-road.

Here's some spec's to throw out there.

A '04 SRT-4 has a 3.44 in bore X 3.99 in stoke which makes a bore to stroke ratio of 0.86. It has 250 ft·lb of torque from 2200-4400rpm with 235hp @ 5500rpm stock.

With a few simple mods these number grow dramaticly. It doesn't cost much to get 275hp and 300 ft·lb of torque with the same torque curve. If you haven't noticed it's bore to stroke ratio is over-square which makes it a high torque engine

A '95 4.0 HO has a bore: 3.88 in X stroke: 3.413 in which makes a bore to stroke ratio of 1.14 It has 190 hp @ 4750rpm and 225 ft·lb @ 3950rpm of torque.

To keep up with the 2.4 turbo a 4.0 requires extensive work and expense.

The SRT-4 motor in a 2wd MJ or a prerunner would be a blast.

Nitpick: that's undersquare, not over.

wow, as an srt-4 driver i was always hated on by every other car driver out there(especially cobaltaliers) but its nice to see some appreciation for one of the strongest engines out there..... too bad i got rid of mine a year ago... I miss it....:tears:
I hated on SRT4 drivers cuz most of the ones I came across had a chip on their shoulder or something because of it basically being a hopped up Neon...Had one guy try to pass me on the shoulder, ON BASE, and cut me off and almost clip the rear corner of the guy ahead of me in the process. Had to laugh at another trying to do donuts in a parking lot...it don't work on a FWD pally!! :D

Most SRT-4 owners are punk kids with a thing to prove and they total it out doing so...

BTW FWD donuts rock!!! I have to laugh that you don't know how to do one.... Just put it in reverse with the steering wheel turned against the lock, let the clutch out and hammer it.

It's more then a hopped up Neon, my SRT-4 ACR had thicker floor pans, Toykio 5-way adjustable struts. minivan knuckles, a custom PT Cruiser steering rack & pinion BBS rims, and Viper ACR seats with holes for a racing harness. Properly set-up they are wicked, but too many A-holes own them.

I could keep up with Vipers and Vettes on track days, I passed a some of them too. It handled awesome. A standard SRT-4 doesn't compare in the handling department.

There's a few of those Lexus motors sitting in the junkyards as well but they're a lot more expensive than the Chevy LS1. Still a cool swap though especially if they mate with the AW4.

I'd love to see a 2003+ Jag 4.2L SS V8 engine in one.. if I had the money I would do it.

yeah, there are alot of little bitches driving them, but the same goes for alot of other vehicles. i would always get the "its still a neon" line from people. and i would always reply with..... "and your point is?" if you want to say that its still a neon, then fine, but its a neon that will take a bite out of alot of really expensive sports cars.

Such a nice car...

With manual rear windows

Only kidding

It goes the same with any stock car with power that is cheap, it attracts the punk kids that are out for trouble.

Yea there is nothing like the look of a old guy losing to a "Neon" in a 427 solid lifter cam 69 Corvette. He followed me to find out what I was driving. I took him for a spin threw some twistys and then told him about the mpg it got.... He bought one 2 days later.:dunno:

A '69 440 six pack Road Runner tried but he got a good look at my taillights instead. He is a fellow car club member. He was amazed... I did have to WOT shift it to win. He was out driven. He took it for a 20 minute ride and came back with a big grin on his face. He also gave SRT-4's some respect.

On stock tires I autocrossed with a bunch of BMW 3 Series and was the 2nd fasted street tired car there.

They were all sweet rides I raced, I'm an old Mopar fan. I just found a built 340 for my MJ. :shhh:

I sold my SRT with just under 9k on it. I would have lost my licence in that car. I did a 145mph fly by on a trooper at dusk, when I finally got home I parked for winter and sold it in spring. That trooper didn't have a chance, he was parked and I was out of sight in seconds. Which put me at my exit, about 5 or 6 back roads later I just took the long way home. I passed 5 cops just cruising home, but they didn't look twice because "Neons" don't hit 159 miles per hour..... All he saw was a fast black blur go bye-bye.

The guy down the road has a 550hp one. Truly wicked for a "Neon".

Funny thing is it didn't say Neon on it anywhere....

I want to build an EVO as my daily driver next.

I wish it had them up front too. Losing the AC and all the power goodies including the radio and sound deadener would have made it nicer yet.

Traction helps you win in the beginning :gag:

Look at an STi for example. Decent 1/4 times, but not that fast top speed on the quarter. Take an LS1 camaro, similar or even slower 1/4 times, but faster top speed at the end.

Guy in town has an SRT-4. It was making 750 to the tires and he tore it back down. New goal is 1000 to the ground.

Talk about a hair trigger.. miss the tune much at all and it's rebuild time.

Make one live, though, at about 700rwhp- in an xj. That'd be quite the sight at the strip.

I got plenty of respect for the SRT4s, test drove one a while back, and its a blast. I was laughing at this guy because he wasn't in reverse. He was trying to do it in 1st. That's why its funny. Basically he was driving in a big circle making a lot of noise and shredding what are likely some fairly expensive tires. I've never done a FWD donut, largely because my FWD is a 103hp Focus, but I always figured it would reverse that would allow it to happen...:D
