For the spring Moab event I was thinking that it would low key, maybe Friday Pot Luck type dinner but no raffle or prizes. Our GeoCache event should have that. Just thinking of making the trails in Moab this spring the main attraction for every one. Let me know what everyone here thinks. I was wanting to get the April event rolling soon. Need to find a headquarters quick and get everyone attention before all of the campgounds are full because of the car show.

I'd be curious to know how this event was done in the past. I've never attended the Spring IC event. Any comments from the past bod's?

The year before last was based out of the Ward campground/compound south of town in a primitive camp site. Many of us stayed at Moab Rim RV park. It was a 3 day event. Get there Thurs. sometime with trails on Fri, Sat, and short one Sun morning and then head home that afternoon. We didn't really have a planned dinner.

We had a dinner at a picnic area near the river one year that was nice, but I dont know if it had to be reserved or not. I think the raffels should be saved for the geostash. Also talking to Ryan he does not want to be in charge of it this year but will help with the caches and placing them. I think that we should plan it for the weeked of the 15th of august. Enough time past the U4 event and before school starts. Uintas seems to be the best place for it to be held and Slider has offered the camp spots again.

To set few dates, keeping about month apart, what do you think here: (based on my weekends off of course)

Noob Run March 14 (AZ Rockfest weekend of 26-29)
June Run June 20
Need to corner Ryan for BBQ date
July Run July 18
Geostash Aug 13, 14, 15 and 16

For the Spring Moab trip we will just plan the trails and leave everyone on their own for evenings. I'll start a thread for what trails everyone would like to run and how many are planning to attend if that sounds good.

sounds great to me.

I think that the geostash thursday friday saturday should be plenty of time that is 15,16,17 I think that the other times more people did not show up until the weekends anyway.

Don't you mean the 14th-16th. Friday thru Saturday? Or do you want Saturday thru Monday?

Otherwise, the dates all look fine with me.

I'm Back!!!! :D

Seems whoever made the password added an extra space at the end. It required that space!

Anyways.... Just for your information. That park at the North end of town worked great for a BBQ and it did not need to be reserved. The only problem that could happen is it is a first come first serve type place. It could get ugly if someone else wanted to use it, although I don't ever remember seeing anyone there.

So what do you peeps want to do for this event? I will not be there until friday afternoon. Not sure if you want to be more lazy and just find a spot to get together to watch the cars go by at night or if we want to do a bbq. I think that a raffel is out of the question since we are tying to get stuff for the geostash.

I'm going down on Wed 22nd (possibly Tuesday). What I was thinking on was just trail runs, no raffle. According to how many of us go I thought usual Mild group and Wild group runs for each day. I wanted to keep Friday to short runs so everyone could attend Car show. What I would really like to do for Saturday is have a big out of town Camp Fire Dinner, like the one we had in the spring of 07. Another idea I have had for Saturday was Elephant Hill run with camping on the trail, been reading about few camp spots in the area.

Does anybody know what the campground was called that was used during the spring 2007 trip? I remember it was about 15 miles south of Moab.

Yeah, it wasn't a campground. It was just a camping area on the Behind the rocks road.

I doubt I will camp out there. I would kind of like to be closer to town this year.

I like Derek's reply, Sand Flats area is close enough for everyone.

I wouldn't invite the whole group.

In years past we have had 30-40 rigs show up. I would hate to see that many try and get in one camp ground.

I would suggest we offer a cook out there or something like that but don't tell everyone to camp there I don't think it would work.

I was thinking about the diner for those who wanted to attend, I did not intend to have everyone there to camp. I am also under the impression that it might not be a problem, I really don't see that many responses and interest for spring in Moab this year.

Trust me Tom, people will come out of the wood work.

For as long as I have been around there have always been about 20% of the people saying they are going not show up and about 40% of the people who do show up never said a word about it.

So I should get there sometime Friday afternoon. There are some people in my neighborhood that are going to be down there so i might take them on a quick fins and things night run. Golden Spike on Saturday and going home on Sunday.

Anyone need anything before the trip? Not too many people are posting up so i think that maybe just flag people down to see if we want to meet to watch the cars go by.
