I was stupid. I'm going to jail.

Thank you all.

Things are already going well. I spent a wonderful sober weekend with the wife and son and I'm off to a better-paying job tomorrow. The wife's sometimes-infuriating stubborn-ness apparently applies to her love for me as well. I'm coming away from this mostly intact and lucky as hell. Now all I have to do is prove I deserve it.

Would it seem crass to send the cop a thank-you card?

I'd think it depends on what you write in it. If this actually turns you around, then I'd think that the cop that nailed you would be instrumental in your recover, and personal honour would demand that he be recognised for that - but that's just me.

That would depend, of course, on whether you have a turnaround, and if it's permanent - although, judging by what you've got to say, I think it will be.

And, there's nothing wrong with a stubborn woman. Sure, it takes a little getting used to, but my wife gets bullheaded sometimes - and she needs it, with me!

IMHO....no, i dont think it would be. if you've honestly changed your life around, it is a good thing to show appreciation, in a proper way. the officer who pulled you over might appreciate it too.

i've lost friends, i have an uncle whos currently a recovering alcoholic....only reason why he cant have a drink or smoke any cigarettes anymore is my aunt has to take him to chemo every week for cancer that they found in the base of his spine (secondary cancer). that particular man has wrecked at least 3 rigs i can think of, put my cousins through a windshield, and god knows what else. (btw he's 6'5 and weighs 125 lbs with a backbrace, clothes, and shoes on)

i have a father who drinks WAY too much. i realized this when i went home and he met me at the airport smelling of booze. (btw its a 3 hour drive from my house to the airport) on the drive home (which by the way i drove) all i could think of was the what iffs....if a cop had pulled him over for speeding, etc. .i guess he hasnt learned his lesson....my mom almost left him once because of drinking....and when mom left, he started right back up.
for these reasons i really watch what i drink, because i feel that it does run in families...if parents do it, kids are going to.

oh..btw...you have one helluva wife for stickin with ya through this....would be a really good idea to show your appreciation for her, too.

Five years from now, we will know if you actually walked the walk. At thirty days, anybody can talk the talk. Pink clouds are very slippery.

X2 A card to the cop would be much more meaningful 5 years from now
