Well I made the first move and submitted my application and my $$ to become an offical 2 year NAXJA member.:wierd:
awesome! welcome aboard. if you get something quick there is time to get it ready for the Swamp Lake NAXJA run which is down there near Fresno, or you probably find an empty seat with someone.

Welcome Joe,
My advice on a lift...(I run stock so take this for what it's worth)...spend your 1st $45 joining NAXJA, than your second $45 buying the factory service manual for whatever year XJ you purchase. Accept Chuck's invitation and come along to the events, all are always welcomed and the friendship is top notch.
Welcome to the busiest chapter in the club.
Tom

and your next $500 or so on rocker protection and skid plates. Then lift and tires ($2000-$3000+) then axles if you've gone to tires over 33" and want to wheel alot.

Noooooo....not a RED one.

Aw what the heck welcome to the fold.

Ok, so now that I bought the truck I want to do a little lift and put on some more aggressive tires…..SO ITS NOT A LOW RIDER!!! :laugh3:

At this point I don’t want to spend too much money...in fact the lower the better, because I’ll be saving for a “real” lift, tires and so on to do in the next 6 moths or so. I would like to get this out there sometime this summer though and be able to leave the parking lots on some dirst roads at least. What's the most cost affective way (cheapest) of doing this? I've seen a few like RE 2 inch, rustys budget boost and so on but I know there is an opinion out there somewhere and I would like to read it. - Thanks!

are you willing to do a little Pick N Pull/junkyard shopping? can you weld?

stack some extra coil isolators which give 1/2" lift each or make some spacers if you can weld, and pull a couple leafs from something like a Dakota, S10 or Comanche that has 2.5" wide springs with lots of arch and add/substitute some of those into your leafs. You can also use a different shackle (Comanche or a lot of Chevy trucks) to get about 1/2" in the rear. then you'll want new shocks for the front and either new shocks for the rear or relocate the rock-anchor mounts on the axle.

if you want to just buy something, Rustys has some good small lifts, though I'm not a fan of their bigger stuff.

shoot for 2-3" of lift so you won't need driveshaft mods yet, get some 30s or maybe 31s so you won't have to worry about axle strength or gearing yet, get some good tow-points, skid-plates, and start hitting the trails. open diffs and small tires will teach you to drive well so that when you move up to lockers and big tires you will do much better. lots of the Shaver Lake area trails are very doable on 30s/31s with open diffs.
