its a lincoln promig 180, but its the tapped model not the continuous one. going to try to exchange it.
Although I know nothing about that particular welder - I would have to say that you shouldn't let the taps scare you away from it. I realize that this is contrary to Opies comments - but its just my opinion.
I have used a machine with infinite control quite a bit as well as my new HH210 with taps. I initially didn't like the idea of having voltage taps, but after thinking about it - I would look at how I used the welder with infinite control. Lets see, i look at the chart on the inside of the door, set the machine, and pull the trigger. I dont weld everday, and thus dont (and likely NEVER will) have the skill to say, "hmm, voltage seems a little low, let me adjust it a hair". Any time I found myself tweaking the voltage it was typically because I was trying to half-ass something outside the specs of the wire I was using. For example, welding sheetmetal with .030 flux core.
If i welded everyday, or even every other week, I might really feel the need for the infinite voltage control. And ideally, the infinite voltage is the better way to go. But nevertheless, I wouldn't trade my Hobart 210 for a MM175 any day of the week. Dont forget, you can still tweak the wire speed and the amount of stickout if something doesn't feel right.
Just my opinion; you will likely find that most will disagree :laugh3:
