I think I finally broke it

No welding this time, I didn't have access to a competent welder tonight and need this on the road by tomorrow night to get to URE. I certainly thought about it though, especially since it wouldn't be permanent (new d44 for the 4.56 swap).

Thankfully I have a spare carrier in the garage with spider gears ready to go. I would have done it all tonight, but I'm running on 3 hours of sleep as is, and had to add a complete drum job to the process. I got the shafts pulled tonight and figured it was a good stopping point. Cobbler Chris's Dad is going to get a head start cleaning up the brakes before I get home from work tomorrow, so all I should have to do is pull the carrier, swap the spiders, and reassemble everything. Somehow I always have these late minute crucial projects before wheeling events. '11 Crawl was the most stressful, I finished the stroker days before leaving.

Oh! I can't find any of the missing teeth? Hopefully they show up tomorrow when I pull the carrier and can really look/clean everything.

Hey, I finally broke something other than a driveshaft. Once again the result of a heavy foot, on the road or on the trail.

mini spool.....drove a spooled rig 140 miles a day and it was my only vehicle.

those were the days.....now im responsible and stuff

I called 4wp and East Coast Gear Supply as soon as I saw it was the spider gears, both local, neither one had a mini spool in stock. Trust me I was going to take full advantage of the opportunity.

Save what is left of the spiders and come spend a weekend with me.... you will leave Lincoln locked and happy!

How's he going to get it down there before tomorrow? lol

I was refering to a later date in the second post... but he has some spiders to put in there...

Nick just texted me something I have never seen. C-clips on a cross pin? Looks like a LS D44?

So apparently I have/had a D44 Trac-Lok. Replacement spider gears and clutch kit is $350 from Yukon. Looks like I may be building my 4.56 axle a whole lot sooner than expected.

Hmm... that sucks.

Fixed it for ya...

Always fun to open up a diff and find out it's different than what you were expecting...

Well my opinion of East Coast Gear Supply completely changed. They had the spider gear and clutch kit in stock, $100 cheaper than anything online, and when I told them I was supposed to be at URE this weekend, two guys waited an hour after closing for me. I'm impressed and very fortunate.

About to slam down some bbq and get this Jeep back together. Unless something else major comes up, I'll be at the Jamboree first thing tomorrow morning. I'm interested to see if I notice any difference with an actual working LS in the rear end.

So I'm sitting by a fire wondering if you will show!!!!!

Jeep is rolling. Thanks to snapping the brake line at the wheel cylinder I went ahead and installed the Crown Vic disc brakes. Not sure if the installed calipers are going to work, but at least I have a closed fluid system and hopefully can get them a little better bled off before I head out. It's going to be one nervous ride down. Time for a few hours of sleep.
