I searched and searched

ok... So i took my jeep on a 30 minute drive up in the mountain on a state hwy. and the jeep got up to 223 degrees with out a/c on in 92 degree ambient heat and then the aux fan kicked on and cooled it down to about 215 then climbed again and the aux fan kicked back on. Why is this thing getting so hot with out the a/c on and not even on it??? I have a 4.5 inch lift 33's and stock gearing, csf 3 core new water pump and thermostat. Once i got up the mountain and (72 or so ambient heat) the temp went from about 215 to 194 in a couple minutes. Do you think if i put in my 16000 btu B&M tranny cooler and bypass the radiator tranny cooler that that would help the temp fluctuating, sense it only happens when pulling grades???

I haven't read the entire thread, but based on what you say here, everything is working as it should. The fan came on @223* and cooled it off 'til it was needed and it came on again when necessary. The 33" tires and stock gearing are putting a lot of stress on the transmission to keep them turning at speed during hill climbs.
Removing the hot transmission fluid from the radiator will lower the engine temps, but you will still need to address the root cause of the overheated transmission fluid. A bigger cooler AND a re-gearing of the axles is what the Jeep is asking for.

All 200 some posts of this is the same... read one page, you have read them all. Hence why a mod merged all of them

S.O.B.!!! I dont understand my Motha effin jeep lol.
well i got the electric fan as all you know and then i tried having a second 99 aux fan instead of my 14 inch fan since they pull about the same CFM (i did this conversion for testing) but after 2 months of having it i think i will be going back to a derale rigid race fan. I drove for about 40 min today and then let it idle and it went to 212 degrees when its 65 outside :( personally i dont think it should get past 210 when its that cool out. If i still have troubles after going back to a mech fan then i have no idea lol.

why are you concerned about it being 2 degrees over? This is not rocket science, it is a freaking jeep. within 10 degrees is perfectly fine.

well it kept climbing from 212. im not super worried but it just seems wierd that it did that when its cold out. Thats all i am getting at. but we will see im just doing testing to see which fan does the best job wheather you are at idle or in traffic or going down the road.

I had 3 sensors from Oriely's and Rock Auto that all read 30 degrees high. I got a Mopar one from the dealership for 20 bucks or so and it my gauge now reads the same as my IR gun. Part number 56027012. From now on I am going to get any sensor my Jeep needs at the dealership.

THIS THREAD IS EPIC!!!!!!!

Turn the heater on if you are that worried.

Did you ever install the tranny cooler? Did you ever regear? If you're on 33s you're gonna want deeper than 4.11s. You might also want to install some logic. Like has been said, hitting 212 is not a problem. Neither is hitting 223 and then cooling back down.

i just find it wierd that with my older 2001 cherokee i never hit 220 let alone just just going uphill in 2wd on the highway lol. Also 411 are fine with 33's. now if i ran 35's then maybe 456 or 488. But now i think my rear whell bearing are going out and my front axle you joint or main bearing might be going haha. but other than that the jeep is running awesome :D i guess with 160k u joint and that stuff might start wearing down lol

If you look at the majority of people running 33s, they choose 4.56 or 4.88. Most also report pretty decent mileage. I don't get good mileage, but I think my Jeep has other issues...

Yup! 33"s and 4.56 with about 17.5 MPG highway, on my renix. 4.11 would feel too gutless for me. 4.56 or 4.88 all the way.

Wow well then I'll do 488 once I get the money haha. But now I have either a d30 main bearing going or axle u joint :(

Have you tried one of these?

kinney, when you start up your brand new chevy truck on a 50 degree day and drive it around for about 4 mins do you find it weird that it runs at 210ish (normal operating temp)? No matter how cold it is outside your truck pretty much always runs the same temp.. because when we are dealing with a motor that runs at 200 degrees, a (-) 20 degree difference in the outside air isn't going to affect the temp of your motor.. my jeep runs the same temp if its 40 degrees of if its 100 degrees.. it is the operating temp of my jeep. Same with my truck.. in other words stop worrying about a your temps.. nothings wrong. Just go wheel your jeep and have fun.. when your engine bay is pouring out steam then post up your probs!

sorry im not like a lot of idiots that wait until its too late to ask questions. Not calling you an idiot sandy because your jeep had a bad head gasket, but to all the other people that will ask "man today my jeep blew up and through a rod, how do you think this happened?" or i can be a little paranoid and then get a lot of answers telling me not to worry about it and then i will then believe it. I like to hear it from more than just one person. I drove up the mountain and it hit 224 with no ac and i was not romping on it that is why i was worried about the temps. And then i do have rear wheel bearings going out which i am fixing on sunday and most likely a front axle u joint. And for yamadevil sorry but you are the one who chose to waste your time and read it, so get over it!
